Punching People for Fun and Profit, Period 1 [Class One | 9/2/2009]

Today's class met in the gym, for no particularly good reason. Mainly because Fred didn't want to try to sit at a desk in front of a class.

"So y'all are in 'Punching People for Fun and Profit'. If you think you'll cry like a baby and won't be able to handle getting punched in the face at some point during the course, go leave now. This ain't a class for sissies. I won't be breakin' you all in quite yet, today's the easy day. After this, things get harder. We'll learn some fightin' basics the first few weeks, and then we'll be goin' into the Danger Shop to explore some various career options for the violence inclined."

He laughed, a deep, belly shaking laugh.

"I'm Frederick J. Dukes, and I'll be your teacher for this class. I've worked Special Ops for the US Military, and some freelance mercenary work. I've done some pro boxing as well. Long story short, don't give me lip. You'll get detention. Or worse. Now I want you all to introduce yourselves. Name, Class, Fighting Experience, and the biggest thing you've beaten. Me? I took down a tank."

He pointed to a random member of the class. "You start."

After the introductions were done, Fred pointed the TVs set up with Wiis.

"For the rest of the easy day, you get to play Wii Boxing. Next week, we learn how to throw real punches."

[ooc: OCD first, please. ETA: OOOOPEN!]

Claire decided that this class was going to be very interesting.

Oh, good. She'd get to punch people next week. That was all kinds of awesome.

For now, a video game was close enough.

Kennedy would have been more annoyed by the lack of actual punching things today if not for two circumstances. The first was yesterday's Reserves incident, which had put enough of a dent in her enthusiasm that today wasn't quite as much of a surprise.

The second was that Wii. They didn't make video game systems like that in 1999.

She was so getting herself one of those. Today, even.

Jack was thinking this would be easy, what with him being in Fight Club already and a few lessons from there.

Poor, poor Jack. He should be taking notes rather than doodling a rather not-slim man punching a tank.

Why yes, Tybalt was scowling to himself because he had to take another class with this teacher. Why?

He was also keeping a wary eye open for dodgeballs.

"I'm Claire Bennet, a junior, my fight experience is mostly limited to the past few months with Fight Club and, uh..." she paused. "I haven't really beaten anything."

"Elena," she said coolly. "Senior. Trained at an elite military academy for several years, specialized in martial arts, and was recruited before graduation for an elite division."

She wasn't going to elaborate on the Turks' duties in public, if she could help it.

"If we're just talking size, the biggest was probably one of the Dark Dragons up in the Northern Cave. Fierce, grumpy, but they die like anything else."

Jak... held up his sign that read My Name Is Jak, I Have Difficulty Speaking.

And then he mimed something big. Giant, big. Fifteen times his size, big. Listen, that had been a really big Precursor robot, all right?

"Kennedy. I'm a junior." Kennedy didn't do much about hiding her deeply skeptical reaction to Fred. "I've trained with martial arts and weapons for ten years, but I haven't actually gotten to fight anything yet so I'm hoping I get to fix that really soon here."

Was that impatience in her voice? Yes.

"Biggest thing I've beaten? Does one of the defensemen from the varsity hockey team count?"

"I'm called Andros," Andros said, "I'm a junior, I've been trained in martial arts since I was young and I've beaten some monsters back home," even though he hadn't been able to stop some of said monsters from causing his home world to be deserted.

"I'm Lois Lane, I'm a senior. I'm a third degree black belt and I've had training in other areas of fighting thanks to the whole military brat thing," she said. "I beat up a Navy Seal once. Oh, and I fought a god but that didn't end so well for me."

"I am Tybalt of the house of Capulet, and a senior," Tybalt replied, with no small hint of pride in his voice. For as much distaste as he had for the teacher and his methods, there was no denying the Prince of Cats his boasting. "My home in Verona sees much conflict between my house and that of the Montagues, villains that they are. We regularly hold our own against them when they've the nerve and ill-sense to trespass on territory not their own. And so, a Montague is my answer to thy last question, as well."

"Danny Fenton, sophomore, one year as a superhero," he replied, oh so smug. "Biggest thing I've ever beaten would be the Fright Knight."

Oooh, playing video games in class? Totally win.

Claire would be happy to pair up with someone, but she was also okay with taking on the machine.
