Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Yup. There was still food. And tables. Nothing new about any of that, sadly. But maybe there would be shirtlessness? One can always hope, ya know. Dream big.

Dream big.

Not you, Jono. Eeeew.

Not terribly far away, Zach sat with his sketchbook. He turned from one half-finished sketch as his subject walked away and looked for another when he saw the guy dressed in leather, wrappings on his face.

Immediately Zach had pencil to paper again, roughing out first the outline, then adding features, darker lines.

And Zach probably would have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for those kids and their dog the fact that Jonothon could only stare at bowls of crisps and veggie platters for so long before getting bored and turning his attention elsewhere.

Elsewhere just so happened to be toward the kid on the ground who kept looking at him. If that wasn't mildly uncomfortable, Jono really had no idea what was.

After a moment's hesitation, he started toward the guerrilla artist, one eyebrow raised.

It took Zach a second or two to realise that his subject had moved. Was, in fact, looking at him now.

"Oh, sorry," he said, stilling his pencil. "I didn't mean- Is it okay? You're just. I've never seen anyone dressed like you."

//Stands out a bit, does it, mate?//

By this point, Jono had completely given up any illusions of keeping his mutation a secret. If he was spoken to, he was going to bloody well speak back, thank you very much.

He crossed his arms over his chest and continued on with that one-eyebrow-up look he'd been giving before. You'd think the kid had never seen a grunge goth Brit with no lower jaw before.

Zach dropped his pencil (but not his sketchbook. Never the sketchbook). "Did you just." He stared. "Did I just hear you in my head?"

//No, mate. Why would yer ever think something so bloody mad as that?// Okay, so Jono was a bit of an ass, sometimes. //People talkin' in yer 'ead. Next it'll be blokes runnin' around with their faces on fire.//

"How are you doing that?" Zach asked. He'd gone beyond, 'that's impossible,' already, today. Next thing, he'd be believing six impossible things each day before breakfast.

Not hard, at Fandom.

//Clearly, I'm a bloody mime,// Jono scoffed, giving his head a shake. //Can't talk, got to get the point across somehow. This is my impression of a goth British mute wot just caught a barmy pillock starin' at him.//

Fine. Fine. He'd relent and give the kid a break already.

//I'm a mutant, mate. I just can.//

Not much of a break, admittedly.

"Oh." That made sense, maybe. Kind of. "Do you mind if I finish the drawing?" Zach asked.
furnaceface: (Wtf?)

... What the bloody hell was the matter with people around here?!

They were all clearly stark raving off their bloody trolleys. The whole lot of them.

Still and all...

//Might as well. How much've yer got done, there?//

In Zach's defense, it's not like he'd ever heard of mutants to be prejudiced against them, and his brain had already been broken that day. "Mostly just, like, the outline," he explained, reaching down to pick up his pencil before turning the sketchbook so Jono could see it. "And I've started on your... scarf?"
furnaceface: (Very disappointed in you)

[personal profile] furnaceface 2009-08-30 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
//Scarf'll do,// Jono replied, leaning over to have himself a better looksee. //You know, that isn't even half-bad?//

It was a compliment. Take it while you could, Zach.

"Thanks," Zach said, going back to the drawing. He filled in a little more, darkened some of the lines. Before long, he had what was a more-or-less finished drawing. "You want it?" he asked.
furnaceface: (Backward glance)

//Want a picture of m'self?// Jono gave Zack a weird look, at that. //Wouldn't want you to mess up yer sketchbook by rippin' out a page mate. Yer go right on an' keep it.//

He didn't want to look at himself, no matter how good the art made him look.

//Flattered that yer figured I was worth drawin' at all, mate. The name's Jonothon, by the way.//

"Zach." He flipped the page on the finished sketch, moving to a clean one. "So, why the scarf?"

... This kid asked some pretty damn nosy questions, didn't he?

Jono gave his head a shake.

//Figured the scarf looked better'n what's sittin' underneath it,// he noted, lifting a finger to momentarily point at the burn scars running up his cheeks.

They were some pretty unhappy looking scars, at that.
