Yup. There was still food. And tables. Nothing new about any of that, sadly. But maybe there would be shirtlessness? One can always hope, ya know. Dream big.

"Not having fun?" Alex asked before taking a bite of the cookie.

"Just not into it today," Griff admitted. "People come and go fast."

That was a sentiment Alex agreed with pretty strongly. "Yeah," he said, glancing around for a few people and then shaking his head. "You still got me, Griff. That makes it a little better, right?"

"Makes it so I don't have to check that roommate list," Griff grinned.

"Such a compliment, Griff," Alex said, picking off a piece of his cookie and flicking it at Griff's head. "I could switch rooms if you're really into that."

No, he wouldn't be doing that.

"Tempting as that is, I've gotten used to sharing a space," he admitted. Also, no giving Fiona the satisfaction.

"Because your ass loves me," he joked, slinging an arm around Griff's neck and giving him a squeeze. "Admit it."

"My ass thinks you should stop smoking," Griff said, letting himself be hugged. "Seriously, it'll kill you." Or knowing Griff would, details.

"I'm gonna die anyway, why not go out happy?" Alex wondered, letting Griff go though. "I like smoking."

"What's to like?" Griff wondered, since it smelled awful.

"Oral fixation, nicotine fix, and I like the smell," he said but held it away from Griff to be nice. "Hey, I don't bust down on your coffee addiction."

"As coffee smells great and wakes a person up," he said, glad for the smoke to be farther from his face.

"To you," he pointed out. "All a matter of personal opinion."

But, just because he wanted to (not because he didn't want to bother Griff or anything), he flicked the cigarette out.

"You seen Rose lately?" he asked.

"Nope," he shook his head. "She shave her head or somethin'?"

"She went home for a week," he said and felt a little guilt about not telling Griff. "Wasn't a very good week, from what I hear. I thought you might wanna know and, you know, go see her or something."

"Oh!" Griff felt bad for not having heard or noticed in his serious single-minded reading during break. "I guess. I mean, is she okay?"

Alex shrugged, suddenly wishing he hadn't flicked his cigarette away because he was dancing dangerously close to emotions again.

"I think it was just a bad week." Not that he'd helped at first. "She called me before she left, mentioned you and I just sucked and forgot to tell you."

"Right, least she came back." He was sick of the people leaving.

"She did," he said even if Alex wasn't sure she'd wanted to. "She wanted me to call her if you ever turned into anything funny."

"Ahh, now it all makes sense," Griff smiled. "I will never turn into anything funny or furry."

"You turned into a girl," he reminded Griff.

"Yes, and she already saw that, so we're good for the rest of my time in Fandom." He'd decided, therefore it would be so.

"You've so jinxed yourself," he said and gave Griff's shoulder a pat. "And you're now doomed."

"I'll take you down with me," Griff assured him, "no worries."

"Griff, I'm so proud of you," he said, laughing. "Threatening me! You're growing up so fast."
