Yup. There was still food. And tables. Nothing new about any of that, sadly. But maybe there would be shirtlessness? One can always hope, ya know. Dream big.

"I'm no politician," Jennifer said. "I'm in this just for it looking good on my college applications."

"Oh! College, I've heard of that." There was one college in Bordertown, but it was more along the lines of a community college. "What school are you looking at?"

"Harvard," Jennifer said. "The best you can get to, really."

"I've heard that. So it's better than...that school in England? The one named after a cow?"

"Well, if I want to study US law, it'd be silly to go to England, right?" Jennifer said.

"Yes. Yes it would. Funny though. So you're going to be a lawyer?"

"That's the idea," Jennifer said. "Best defense lawyer LA will ever get, I hope."

"Just don't lose your temper in the middle of your monologue." An instant later she wondered if that was a wrong thing to say.

"Yeah, I'll be careful," Jennifer said, not pointing out the mistake.

"I think that'd be the funnest part of it. The few times I've seen one of those law dramas the best parts were the monologues."

Jennifer chuckled. "Those are actually called arguments," Jennifer said. "The TV shows usually emphasize the closing arguments a lot."

"Arguments. Got it. But there didn't seem to be much arguing between the lawyers. And when there is the judge yells at them."

"That's because you're making the argument to the jury," Jennifer said. "They're the ones you're supposed to be addressing."

"But the jury doesn't argue back do they? Am I just misunderstanding the meaning of argument?"

"Different sort of argument," Jennifer said.

"It's like..." How to put it? "Like a scientists argument right? Where they have something they're trying to prove?"

"Exactly," Jennifer said, smiling. "That's exactly it."

"Cool." Leda was proud for figuring it out. They didn't have many scientists in Bordertown. "So, why defense lawyering?"

"Because sometimes you need to defend the defenseless," Jennifer said.

"That's a good reason. So you'll be like a superhero."

"Kinda, yeah," Jennifer said. "Hopefully, at least."

"Watch out for lawyer jokes." She didn't know any, but she'd heard of them.

"Oh, believe me, I'm ready for them," Jennifer said.

"Are you gonna focus on anything in particular?"

Jennifer shook her head. "Not entirely sure, yet."
