Yup. There was still food. And tables. Nothing new about any of that, sadly. But maybe there would be shirtlessness? One can always hope, ya know. Dream big.

Ino had grabbed a sandwich and some chips and was flopped down under a tree as she studied the new kids. Good haul, she figured.

"Hiya Amy." By now Leda knew this wasn't her real name. But she didn't care. "Freak out any new kids Cid?"

"Hiiii Leda," Ino said, and shrugging a bit. "Would I do something like that?"

Yes, yes she would.

"As long as no permanent damage is done, what's wrong with that?"

"Absolutely nothing," she said, with a quirked grin. "Though they might disagree."

Leda scoffed good naturedly. "Having been on the receiving end, I say it's good for them."

"Me too," she admitted, making a face. "Throw it to them quick and let them get used to dealing right away, you know? Else they'll take forever to get used to here."

"Exactly. Hey even stash a Gremlin in their room. Maybe not on the first weekend though."

Griff could appreciate sitting out of the way and joined Ino with pockets of cookies. "It's great they give food at these things. Something to do while wondering who's gonna flip first."

Ino snickered, looking up at him.

"Any ideas then, on who'll flip?" she asked archly. "And the food, I think, is more 'cause they know half of the school wouldn't show up without it."

"I know I wouldn't've," he admitted. "No bets yet. Anyone wide-eyed will get my vote soon enough."

"Could be wide-eyed with glee," she noted. "Hard to tell with some people, yeah? And true enough, I almost didn't show either, so hurrah for food and good company to keep me sticking 'round."

"Don't know that I count for company, but I have cookies." And he'd share them, even. "Did you flip when you came?"

"Can I have one?" she asked, giving him puppy eyes. "And I--so mean, making me think 'bout two whole years ago--I... didn't flip over the weird."

Ino tugged her hair.

"Flipped more 'bout a specific two, really. One was dead in my world but alive here, and the other was--traitor." And she'd wound up dating the traitor, go figure.

"'Course," he held out his hand, "Your choice of chocolate chip or...chocolate chip!" Creative boy, this one.

"Ouch, good reason to flip. I flipped over aliens on drugs and Claudia's hat."

"Do you have chocolate chip?" she teased, taking one. "Thanks."

"Aliens on drugs?" Ino laughed. "I think Claudia's hate was probably scarier."

"Yeah," he nodded emphatically. "But she's gone and taken it with her." This bothered him more than he would like.

"She's left already?" Ino sighed. "At least you can probably still write her, yeah?"

"Crazy, yeah? I'm thinking about it," he shrugged. "Bet in two years you've seen a lot more come and go."

"Ugh," she said, nibbling at her cookie. "I have, and I hate it. It's no fun watching people leave and getting left behind."

"I'm more used to doing the leaving," Griff said, letting out a breath slowly. "It's strange to stay in the same place."

"A nice strange?" she asked.

"It's relieving, yeah," he said. "Good to see the same faces and all that." Rather than just getting lost in the crowds.

"And people 'round here like it when there's people who stay 'round too," she added. "It's hard, on both sides of the leaving and staying."

"So what keeps you here, Ino?" Griff wondered, shoving a piece of cookie in his mouth.
