Art Appreciation and Protection (Week 7, Period 2, 8/17)

A *handwavey* e-mail had gone out after last week's class, to inform them that the last one was meeting at the York Gallery in town. Standing outside, Sophie gestured behind her.

"You've all been a wonderful class; I hope you learned something about art history and appreciation that you didn't know previously. As well as the protection measures. I won't be teaching next semester, instead I've moved into the business sector." She cocked her head, and said, "This is my new gallery. Today, you're going to be a great help to me by testing my security measures as they are now. Hidden inside it are various small tokens, like this one." Sophie held up a small gold poker chip on a chain. "I'll be your fence for the day." She grinned. "Go in there, and retrieve as many as possible without setting off my alarm system or causing major property destruction, and you can exchange them for fabulous prizes. Just like a real heist."

She shoo'd them. "I'll be on the corner sipping coffee over there, awaiting the sounds of alarms. Good luck!"

Shilo raised her hand. "So my key to the front door and my codes for the alarms won't work as of today?" she asked.

"I did change them, and you'll get the new codes after class, so you can work your next shift," Sophie promised. "But use the knowledge of how they work and where they are." She smiled. "So many of these are an inside job."

No broken windows or doorframes, please. Minor lock-picking damage or electrical disconnections are fine.

Get in the front door, or the back door, bypassing the cameras and alarms and locks.

Or you can always go up to the roof and look for a window to force open.

One of the first things Annja had learned when getting access to dig sights was that you had to look like you belonged there.

That would be why she was walking through the front door.

Shilo had canon experience with lockpicking, so she went to the back door and pulled a bobby pin from her hair, and began working on it.

The roof was George's choice, and he was up on it in a flash, checking the windows to find the best to slip into. This? So his cup of tea, yes.

Joolushko hated to be shown up by her classmates. That was the only thing keeping her going in this class. Breaking into an actual art gallery, even with permission, would not have been something she would do otherwise. But she had her pride and it would not stand for these humans to be able to do something she couldn't do.

She was tempted to try and melt one of the locks, but that might backfire and would definitely attract unwanted attention. She'd need to figure out an alternate way to open the door.

Gallery Lobby

There are tokens hidden behind the picture frames, under vases, and taped to the bases of statues.

Most of these have no motion-detectors, and no weight-sensors. But some of them are wired and need to be disconnected first.

And there are random laser sights around the edges of the room. Careful.

Knowing the gallery as well as she did, Shilo decided to check the room first for anything unusual or out of place.

Shiny tokens under glass, here. And yes, there are weight-sensors and motion detectors on each little column. Set off an alarm, and the little poker disk slides into the pillar and can't be reached.

Parker was indeed in her element. She wasn't worried about whether she could break in and get the tokens; she just was trying to figure out which of the several ways she could come up with would be the most fun.
