The students should have gotten a ~~handwaved~~ notice to dress nicely and meet at the Danger Shop, where they were met by a Ghanima waiting just outside the door.

"Right." Reaching inside her coat, Ghanima retrieved a deck of the Dune Tarot and fanned the cards at them. "Step right up, and ask me what today holds for you. Through there --" she gestured at the door to the Shop with the cards, " -- is the Monte Carlo Casino of Monaco. One of the most famous casinos in the world, renowned for its elegance and architecture."

"Your mission is to take the future I forsee, and try to beat it. If I tell you that you are destined to win big, sit outside and give away chips. If I say you fail, go cheat the casino by whatever means you choose. The only rule is not to get caught doing anything illegal by security; that would be a failure of the exam." Not that Ghanima was actually grading them based on the final, she preferred to look at their overall body of work. "I want to see how many of you manage to flaunt destiny."

"After all," she grinned humorlessly, flipping up the Hanged Man with ease. "Navigating the future is a family talent. Who wants to try and beat the oracular Atreides?"

"We took care of things rather well, I think. I was even on an airplane!"

That was almost as exciting as the dragon slaying.

"Then you are braver than I," she laughed. "I will do my travel by portal on this world, but I am not risking life and limb at an airport."

Recycled air. Honestly. Ghanima would rather walk than fly.

"It wasn't all that bad. The food was--" Well, let's move on to happier things, shall we? "--they had little bags of nuts."

It really was the simple things with Merlin, wasn't it? If Ghanima didn't know any better, she'd think he'd been dropped on his head repeatedly as a child.

"You flew on an airplane, had some nuts, and blew up a dragon," she repeated, amused. "Is Canada still standing, or should we send a rebuilding team?"

If he was serious all the time, people would be scared. He was rather murdery when he got serious, after all!

"I can assure you it's still standing. Last I saw."

"Oh good, it would be rather unfortunate for Canada if that were not the case," she teased gently. "Beyond blowing up your dragon, how did the rest of the demon-slaying go?"

"Most of it was just closing the portals or sending them back before they did any harm, really."

"And how did you manage that?" she asked, mentally taking notes. "Your gift, I am assuming?"

If he was playing 'bounce the demon' and not leaking brains out his ears, she could most likely step up his training with few ill-effects.

Merlin nodded once quickly. "It was odd. It's not anything like the spells I've learned before."

"So the method of delivery does not seem to affect your talents at all? Fascinating," she mused. "Now I'm wondering if the same types of spells would work on your world, or if the metaphysical laws that govern such things would prevent it."

That got her a shrug. "Gaius said he hadn't heard of a wizard able to do this without training."

"Then we shall have to break Gaius's brain a little more," Ghanima announced blithely.

Run, Merlin, Run.

Oh, he was already getting worried. "What did you have in mind?"

"More training sessions with the balls," Ghanima confessed. "If you're already making your powers work in ways they shouldn't, and easily adapting to different schools of magic, you're already making your mind affect your reality. We just need to break you of your last affections for what is and is not possible."

"Oh." Oh dear. "I should make more salve for bruises."

"Or you could not get bruised!" Helpful, wasn't she?

More like cruel. "Better safe than sorry?"
