atreideslioness: (Future Imperfect)

Destiny & Free Will, Week VII [Monday, Period 4]

The students should have gotten a handwaved notice to dress nicely and meet at the Danger Shop, where they were met by a Ghanima waiting just outside the door.

"Right." Reaching inside her coat, Ghanima retrieved a deck of the Dune Tarot and fanned the cards at them. "Step right up, and ask me what today holds for you. Through there --" she gestured at the door to the Shop with the cards, " -- is the Monte Carlo Casino of Monaco. One of the most famous casinos in the world, renowned for its elegance and architecture."

"Your mission is to take the future I forsee, and try to beat it. If I tell you that you are destined to win big, sit outside and give away chips. If I say you fail, go cheat the casino by whatever means you choose. The only rule is not to get caught doing anything illegal by security; that would be a failure of the exam." Not that Ghanima was actually grading them based on the final, she preferred to look at their overall body of work. "I want to see how many of you manage to flaunt destiny."

"After all," she grinned humorlessly, flipping up the Hanged Man with ease. "Navigating the future is a family talent. Who wants to try and beat the oracular Atreides?"

[OOC: OCD Awaits! And now, I crassssssssssssh. Feel free to tag me ooc if there's a future you want Ghani to give your student, otherwise it will be randomized.]

Ben wasn't using the Force to cheat at cards. Growing up around Uncle Han and Lando had its own rewards.

He was winning, but he wasn't being consumed by the feeling. Those creepy cards of Master Atreides could bite him, oh yes.

Raven still wasn't sure what to make of what Ghanima had told her, so she chose to metaphorically give fate the finger by...not going inside to gamble. Gambling didn't make sense to her anyway.

Francine couldn't decide what her fate was supposed to mean or what she was supposed to do to make it happen or not happen, so she sat at the fake bar holding her fake money in her fake purse on her all too real lap, drinking what she suspected was a fake Shirley Temple and ...doing nothing. Because indecision was totally the way to deal with destiny!

Leda wandered around, mostly trying to figure out what the cards had been saying. Don't be an ass and she'd win? Ignore everything here? What? Gambling had never been her thing anyway.

Tahiri was absolutely getting taken to the cleaners here; card games weren't her strong point any more than games of strategy were, and she was preoccupied thinking about what Ghanima had said. She could have gotten away with using the Force to cheat, but she kind of had a thing about that now.

Plus, preoccupied.

Stupid kriffing cards.

Agnes strode into the casino. The image of the High Priestess card burned in her mind, and she was determined to once and for all be the witch she was meant to be.

So she sat down at a table, ordered a drink, and proceeded to Win at Cards. She didn't cheat, and she didn't play any better than the novice she was, but she Decided she was going to win, so... she did. It didn't feel much like magic, and it certainly wasn't the kind of magic Karla or Merlin tossed around, but it was HER magic.

Be thoughtful. Be smooth. Be balanced. This was Shilo's mantra as she walked into the casino, and while her mun hummed Chris Cornell music to herself. She sat down at a blackjack table and began playing.

When she lost three hands in a row, Shilo felt the urge to leave. She didn't.

The next hand she ended up winning back what she'd lost.

Then she pushed away from the table, and left the casino entirely. Breaking even was good enough.
