Survival | Week 5 | Period 1 | Wed. 8/5

As students entered, Ronon pointed them towards the typical locker rooms they'd grown to love over the past weeks. Once they'd reassembled in the classroom (nope, no gym, just a classroom in the Danger Shop), student may notice the large screen, posters, and handouts on the tables.

"Now, last week you all did an okay job hiding, so that's one thing to try when faced with an enemy you can't shoot or outrun." Since few of them would ever shoot or outrun anything. "This week, we're taking it a step further 'cause you can only hide so long before someone's gonna find you, with any luck not an enemy. When they do, you'll need to be able to communicate with them without alerting the enemy to your location. Today we're watching a clip of how the U.S. military does silent signals and then practicing our silent communication with partners." Ronon looked over the group, wondering which one would be the McKay of the bunch and end up talking through the exercise.

"I wanna see you all trying hard here," he warned as he passed out the papers. "Next week we're talking about how to deal with some of the more interesting people you might meet up with. Trust me, you might need this stuff one of these days if you didn't already last weekend." Uh huh, he'd heard.

For a change, Alex dressed out without a word. His thoughts were still mostly elsewhere. He really just needed a cigarette.

Maron changed, making a face at the uniform, but otherwise still pretty subdued.

Liir just put it on, looking for all the world like he just wanted a nap.

Penelope changed quite easily. Dressing out never bothered her.

Surely, everyone recognized the gesture that was the facepalm. Which was good, because that's what Turtle was doing in regards for the fact that they still had to dress out to sit around and gesture.

Ooh. Gesturing. Really gonna break a swea--

Actually, Turtle's thoughts stopped there. She'd seen Jeff go through some gesturing that was practically aerobic.

Alex knew a few non verbal signals that required using his hands. Of course, they probably weren't appropriate to throw at a partner in this sort of setting. Nevertheless, he was there, waiting for a partner.

Hurley waved at Alex. "Partner?" he said, hoping that didn't invalidate the exercise.

Maron wasn't sure how good she'd be at this, but she glanced around.

Liir considered the various signs and thought about some of the things his father had taught him for hunting in the Vinkus. Some things could be curiously universal.

Penelope wasn't sure about this, but she was there, looking over the handout while being available for a partner.

Kaylee, without any sense of hesitation, waved to Penelope and raised her eyebrows. She figured that might communicate, "Want to be partners?" without actually saying it.

She got the rules, thank you.

When you date a guy like Jeff for practically two years, you tended to consider yourself pretty adept at gesturing. She took a moment to lace her fingers together and stretch them out, an international gesture for bring it.

Francine was a fan of this activity! Given it was exactly the kind of thing they'd tried to institute at Support Services.

Of course, Francine's idea of a response to bring it was the international gesture for hi, I am friendly. Which pretty much described her life.

And, of course, Turtle was there, with a little salute for gesturing TA duty.

And, of course, Turtle, never one to miss a chance to show that she'd been learning the day's lesson, went up to Mr. Dex, waved in greeting, and then went on to make a gesture: one hand over the other, palms facing down, with her thumbs wiggling on the sides, and she grinned.

The international awkward turtle gesture seemed very appropriate for explaining last week's absence.
