Debt! And How to Get Out of It- 1st Period- Class #4

As far as Lily was concerned, it was just another week. And really, given the initial reaction to Evelyn the cockamouse, this was how everyone should prefer her: nice and in the dark.

"So the last couple weeks we've been racking up debt," she said. "This week we're going to start on how to solve it. And the first step, when you've finally begun to realize how far you are in the hole, is to start coming up with ways to pay it off. Yes, after you've told the bill collectors to go away. That's how it works.

"What I want you to do today is come up with a list of ways to raise money. Are there jobs you could take? Can you sell anything? Be as specific as you want, since that's really the fun part, and then after you're done we'll read them aloud, so as specific as you are, remember you have to share with the class."

[YES IT'S LAME. IT'S BEEN A MORNING.]

Hoshi... somehow managed to doze off. She only slept for a couple of minutes, but the whole experience seemed to leave her unsettled.

Adora wrote out a very careful and thoughtful list.

1. Get a job.
2. Charge people I save.
3. Apologize for charging people and do carnival tricks.
4. Off to move moons? Furniture?

Hoshi tried to shake off the sluggish feeling from her brief nap as she worked on her list.

1. Pick up extra shifts at current job.
2. Get a second job.
3. Do freelance translations in my spare time at current job.
4. Bake sale
5. …

There were some ideas she could add for #5, but Hoshi wasn't sure she could get her food replicator to produce diamonds when she couldn't even get a proper cup of coffee.

1. Win Nobel Prize again, use prize money to pay bills.
2. Trick billionaire into giving me money.
3. DVD sales. KA-CHING!
4. Find the world's biggest magnet and use it to pick up everyone's spare change.
5. Duck Season.
6. Get very good at counterfeiting.
7. Get very good at robbing banks.
.
.
.
42. What is debt anyway? Give philosophical thoughts until the very existence of money is in question.
.
.
.
299. Sign an endorsement contract.
.
.
.
424. Flee the country.
.
.
.

The list went on like this for another couple hundred ideas. Not once did Yakko use the words "job," "employment," or "work."

Claudia had taken some time with her list. "Okay, I could babysit, and sell my art on eBay, and be a fashion consultant, and then maybe a high-class callgirl like that one in the movie!"

"Uh..." Adora didn't know if she could share hers. "I thought I could help people move? And get paid for using my abilities even if it feels wrong."

"I could pick up a second job or extra shifts at my current job," Hoshi suggested. "And I could do translation work, if I knew where to find it."

Yakko performed his list as a song. It was quite jaunty, although the fact that he could seemingly summon music from nowhere was possibly weird.
