Long ago, in some of your universes anyway, there was a political push to get children to 'Just say no' to drugs.

Historical Information

One of our staff mentioned to me in passing that it would be a great deal more productive, perhaps, if the negative spin on today's political agendas were positive instead. It was further suggested that it would be far more interesting to run a campaign based on the slogan 'Just say yes' instead of the opposite.

Not to drugs, however. No. That's not how we do things here at Fandom High. *hypocritical cough*

Your assignment, due next week, is to produce a poster/propaganda campaign based on the idea of 'Just say yes'. Requirements are at least two posters, some sort of flyer, a spot in the student newspaper or the radio and at least one faculty endorsement of whatever it is that you are encouraging.

The school administration does not support exhorting your fellow students toward sex, drugs, alcohol or violence and there will be no skewing in that direction, unless you are pursuing a satirical slant on the assignment.

Groups of no more than four will be allowed and, as this is an exercise in teamwork, please try to work with someone new if at all possible. Grading will be based on reactions and discussions of your coursework, and non-contributing students will receive a failing grade. I will be the final judge of what constitutes 'contribution'.

You have until 10/21 to put your campaign together and make arrangements. I would prefer it if each group would elect someone whose responsibility it is to make a thread in the comments including links to any discussions and finished products and also links to any public postings. Your campaign should run 10/22 through 10/29.

As usual, combat journalism students get an automatic A if the finished project causes an argument and/or IC conflict once their efforts become public.

Rogue looks around. "Yep, I think are. So, you, me, Jack, and, um, that girl (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/221374.html?thread=10505918#t10505918) seem to be a group." She pauses. "So, who wants to take notes?"

"I will," Veronica offers, pulling out her laptop and opening Word.

"Oh good. Because my handwriting is awful." She smiles. "You're Veronica, right? I don't know if we've met, but I've seen you around. I'm Rogue." She offers a gloved hand.

Veronica smiles and shakes Rogue's hand.

"Yep, I'm Veronica. It's nice to meet you. It's hard to believe we've been here for so long and there are still so many people I don't know."

"I know. But there's so many of us, and," she looks a little sheepish, "we've all kind of found our groups. Hopefully this project will get people to branch out some."

"That's true. I've never been a big fan of cliques though," Veronica says, thinking about the hell the 09ers put her through last year.

"I hope you're right."

She looks around.

"No one seems to be doing much work. So how did you end up here?"

Rogue smiles, "Me either. I don't like people who are so... exclusive. Seems silly, really."

Rogue wonder how much to tell her. It's not that she doesn't trust her, but... "I was goin' to a school in New York, and one of the teachers died. It caused a lot of bad stuff, and I just needed to get out. The headmaster--Professor Xavier--had a friend who knew a guy who knew the principal and they got me in. I still go back up there occasionally, for counselling and to see all my friends.

"How about you?"

"That's really sad," she says. "I take it the teacher died unexpectedly?"

She wonders how much she should share of her own past.

"I ended up here to get away from some really bad stuff that happened in my town. My best friend was murdered a couple years ago and well..." she trails off, not really sure if she should go into details. It occurs to her belatedly that Rogue may know Lilly.

"Yeah, she was...she died trying to save a bunch of us." Rogue's face falls. "She was a great person.

"Oh, Veronica, I'm sorry. That's awful. Did they catch the guy?"

"Save you? From what?"

Veronica looks uncomfortable, but answers honestly.

"Well, I actually ended up catching him, but not before he tried to kill me, too," she says in a low voice so no one else can hear.

"Plane crash." It wasn't exactly a lie, not exactly the truth, not that Veronica would even understand--or even believe the truth. "If it weren't for her..."

Rogue frowns. "That's awful. It's good you got him, thought. Sounds like the type that'd do it again." Her voice is also low.

"Wow, that must have been an interesting school you went to."

She shudders, remembering the psychotic gleam in Aaron's eyes.

"Oh, he would definitely have done it again if he thought he could get away with it."

"Interesting doesn't even begin to explain it," Rogue says with a smirk. "Of course, I wouldn't say it's too much stranger than this school; the students were a little more ... unique, but the actual school was much more normal." She's decided she likes Veronica.

Veronica smiles knowingly.

"I know exactly what you mean."

She glances at her watch. "Well, class is over and I have some things to do. I'm sure I'll see you around."
