The Danger Shop had been transformed for this class; it now resembled nothing so much as a New Amsterdam alleyway, a little dirty, largely dark, and somewhat foreboding.

"Welcome to today's class. As your syllabus said, today we are studying the crime scene. While my current position means that I usually come to the scene after the police have already done quite a lot of work, you will not always be so lucky.

"So... your first job is to find the body. Your second is to notice as many pieces of information as possible, and your last is to figure out, from the clues left to you, what your next step should be. I would like you to work in teams; help each other, try and find someone with a different skillset from you, or someone who might pick up what you wouldn't think of."

Find the Body

The alley is dark, dank from rain earlier in the night, and somewhat dirty. There are signs that there were homeless people living in one of the alcoves created by a couple of trashbins, but they were quite gone for the moment. There were two fire escapes, one of them with the ladder pulled down while the other looks rusted shut.

The body was, for those who'd be looking, actually on the second story of the working fire escape. More people need to look up.

Savannah wasn't used to finding actual bodies, but for this class, she was making an effort...

...it still took her a few minutes to decide to look up. Once she saw the body, she started towards the working fire escape.

Momoko stepped gingerly into the alley, trying to avoid the worst of the grime and garbage while still looking for evidence and, of course, a body.

Professor Gibbs would be proud of her: she was wearing gloves!

Examine the Body

The body is of more than average height, with red hair and green, open eyes. His suit, for the body is male, is open at the jacket but his vest is well buttoned. Both are of good quality, brown, as are the pants. The shoes are scuffed and of an older make, but well produced.

One hand is closed, the other is splayed wide. The face is relatively untouched and there are no obvious marks on the body, even though the man is dead. His face, however, is in a rictus of fear.

Check the body, perhaps check out the area for clues considering how the body is found, etc.
