Practical Weaponry [Wednesday, Period Four]

Upon entering the Danger Shop, the class would have found it set up to resemble the outskirts of a Madagascan marketplace. Bond leaned against a wall on the second story of a dilapidated building overlooking a crowd intent on betting on the outcome of some sort of animal fight. In the distance they would have been able to see a construction site.

Once the class had joined him in the building Bond began. "Good afternoon, class. Today we'll be looking at parkour, which is the art of getting from one place to another as quickly, directly, and efficiently as possible, regardless of the obstacles in your path. While this may not immediately sound like a weapon, practical or otherwise, any other skill you may learn in this class will be useless if you cannot get to or away from a given fight in time."

He nodded in the direction of the crowd. "In this exercise, you will take turns playing the role of an MI-6 agent, who along with your partner in the crowd is observing a bomb-maker with the intent to capture," Bond said, indicating a man in the crowd. The burn scars on his face made it clear which of the two he was supposed to be. "However, your partner managed to raise his suspicions and he's about to flee the scene. Given that your partner is currently trying to avoid a cobra bite, it's up to you to give chase and apprehend the bomb-maker."

"Your main tools in this exercise will be your wits and your environment, but you will also be armed with one of these." Bond held up a handgun. "This is a Walther P99. Semi-automatic handgun, nine millimetre calibre, fifteen rounds in the magazine. However, given that your objective is to capture the bomb-maker alive, you are to use it only as last resort, and if you shoot anyone who is not a direct and immediate threat, you will fail the exercise."

"So, who wants to go first?"

Dinah was both thrilled with the exercise-- one of her favorite things, chasing, yay! And apprehensive. Mr. Bond looked waaaay too happy.

Hannibal was half listening to Professor Bond and half plotting out how he could do this successfully.

Hannibal spent some time checking and re-checking his gun just to give himself something to do while he waited.

Karla nodded. "Thought so, but wanted to be sure. Thank you."

Karla tried to catch Dinah's eye and wink. She remembered how thrilled Dinah had been recounting parkour from Lady Ghanima's class.

Dinah had to grin, even through her intimidation, some of the glee coming out again. "You ready?" she asked, keeping her voice down.

Hannibal took a split second to try and see if he could find a way to cut the bomber off before he took off through the crowd. He tried to avoid people as he ran, bouncing off them and avoiding obstacles as he ran.

He bowled over one man, throwing a quick apology over his shoulder while keeping the bomber in sight.

Hannibal had no idea how to drive a bulldozer and he had no idea if the thing would even work. He started out for the chain link fence but stopped when he realized he had to chance the bulldozer to give himself some kind of advantage.

So, he backtracked and jumped in the bulldozer, starting it up and trying to get it under some kind of control.

"Not really," Karla confessed in an undertone. "This is a lot harder now that I can't use Craft."

Re: The Girders - PW [Week 2]

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, climbing. Hannibal almost wanted to just take out his gun and shoot the guy in the hand or something but, with his luck, he'd fall and hit his head and die.

"Had to go climb shit, didn't you?" he bemoaned before starting for the girders. "What if I was scared of heights?!"

Whining at the bomber might do something. Maybe the bomber would stop to tell him to shut up or something. Hannibal kept climbing.

Karla traced out a route while she waited. Fortunately, by watching others, she was able to figure out a few things. Like the bulldozer thingy.

"He's gonna be fast," Dinah said, voice still low. "The trick is to use how small you are to get through places he can't. Shortcuts. Map it out in front of you." She smirked a little, listening to herself. "Well, you can probably figure it out as you go. But really, nobody needs magic for this."

"Maybe not, but it sure would make it easier," Karla muttered.

Four more seconds of whining and she'd suck it up and try.

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal was really thankful his arms weren't in bad shape because he was huffing and puffing after the long climb and this guy was still freaking going.

Hopefully he wouldn't develop a sudden fear of heights.

Re: CRANEFIGHT - PW [Week 2]

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal managed to avoid the gun (seriously, he didn't need that thrown at him) and made a risky move of trying to leap at the bomb maker while he had the chance.

It was risky enough that his stupid ass missed and nearly fell off the damn crane while doing so.

Re: The Building - PW [Week 2]

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is too early for this," Hannibal said, jumping off the building and going into a roll so he wouldn't break any ankles. He got up easily, already heading for the top of the drywall and just fearing how bad this was going go rip his shirt.

Dinah snickered at her, amused. "Wouldn't you like to catch someone without another person tracking your magic? I assume they can do that, even if you're really powerful," she teased.

Dinah eeled through the crowds, keeping the bomb-maker in sight, and looking for a place to cut him off. Through a couple stands, over chickens, around a pole, slam slam slam slam feet on the pavement faster faster faster!

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah went over the chain link fence, flipping over the top and rolling as she landed, and groaned.

And waaaait. Heh. If nothing else, it'd give her a view from the high-seat-- yes!

The bulldozer actually had its keys in it, so Dinah started it up, took a breath, and put it in gear.

Low gear. Really low. But at least she knew that much of how to get it going.

Yaaay. Wait. Dinah surveyed the area, looking for a staircase, a ladder, a-- ooooh.

A nice pulley platform?

She jumped on and hit the button so it rose along the outside of the building to the same level as her quarry, until--

Dinah stared. Then gulped. Okay then. She checked herself for loose clothing, checked her gun and the safety again, took a breath, and started climbing.

Don't. Look. Down.

She did not look down. Higher. Higher. Ohhh, crap, don't think about getting down....
