Survival | Week 2 | Period 1 | Wed. 7/15

Survival class was in the Danger Shop gymnasium again, but this time Ronon had his whistle and clipboard. No Barbie, sadly enough.

Once they'd arrived, he got started. "So, we did the introductions last week and if you're still here, you must wanna learn about surviving something. Today we're starting with running. Chances are if you're fast, the bad guys might not catch you. Out-running what's chasing you is step one to survival." They might notice the nicely marked off running lanes around the gymnasium. "I should know, I was what's called a Runner in my galaxy for seven years. The Wraith stuck a chip in my back to track me while they chased me from one planet to the next. Running was the difference between life and death." There as no amusement in his tone. Ronon's gruff voice was even lower and more serious while he described that bit of his past.

"You're not playing the hero in this class. When somebody chases you, you run. You're on your own out there, moving as fast as you can - eight laps around the gym. That's two miles for you kids from Earth. Do it fast and we'll see about getting out early."

If they managed to do it at all. "First dress out, then get started. I'm timing you."

Alex looked sour and put out as he changed. Stupid uniforms. But, he changed and got over it.

Liir just got into the clothes without much ado. He did wish, considering the class, that they came with sneakers, though.

Penelope dressed down easily. She might be the only one to actually like her uniform.

Turtle was making all the same appropriate faces as she changed out for this week, torn on what was worse, the uniforms or all the running coming up.

It was a shrug, by this time. If ugly uniforms were the worst thing on her mind, Francine would actually be kind of happy.

Gwen got changed into her uniform, her distaste for it clear.

And Jon still didn't look any happier about the uniforms this week.

Alex knew how to run. Even with the smoking, he knew how to run. He'd done enough of it back home that he knew how to run and run for long periods of time. He came in easily under the goal for guys and felt like he could have gone longer, if needed.

Running was very much something Liir agreed with and was suited for. He was in under time and not even breathing particularly hard.

...it did make him appreciate the broom, though.

Alright, considering the fact that she was locked up inside her own home most of her life, there weren't many chances for Penelope to run. She started out strong but she was huffing too hard by the end of the first mile and had to move off to the side where she fell on her butt, trying to catch her breath.

Naomi had not done a lot of running before but she still gave it her best shot. She finished several minutes after the time limit for girls.

Hurley started running.

After about twenty minutes and barely finishing the first mile, though, he stopped, gasping for breath.

To say Francine was not usually a huge fan of this would be an understatement, but today she found herself getting into it. Mostly because she could imagine she was running away from the general stupidity that was her life week.

She was never going to make the goal time, but she huffed her way through about three minutes later and found herself almost disappointed to stop.

Gwen ran. She was good at running. Especially since she wasn't carrying a gun or any heavy equipment and was wearing appropriate footwear for it.

Bones had to admit finding himself almost fifteen years younger than usual had it's benefits. He managed to run the two miles even more quickly than he was used to and he easily got in under the goal for guys.

Two miles was easy. Jon came in below time and ran a few extra laps just for fun.

Sam was excellent at running. It turned out he was a little slower when he wasn't running solely on adrenaline, but in the plus column he wasn't carrying a big metal cube and the world wasn't on the line.

After his run, Alex grabbed some water and walked around so his muscles wouldn't lock up or spasm. He wasn't an idiot when it came to his body.

Besides the cigarettes. And the drinking.

Hurley was beat. He knew he wasn't in great shape, but... he'd pushed himself a little too hard.

He was gulping water in between panting.

Turtle was there, intrepid TA that she was, doing some mental math in trying to figure out how quickly she'd need to run if she were to start off next class by snatching up all the uniforms and making a dashing escape.
