Criminal Justice: Wednesday

Students for the Criminal Justice workshop were notified to meet at the main campfire CAMPFIRE! for their workshop.

As the students gather the first thing the would probably notice is there is a large truck sitting next to the campfire. How it got there on an island with weetiny streets? Sorry. Gibbs isn't telling. Next to the truck is a stack of large plastic cases resembling tackle boxes. Each box was labeled with the name of the students.

Gibbs himself is standing next to the truck with his ever present cup of coffee in his hand. "Welcome to the Criminal Justice workshop," he said once everyone had arrived. "I'm Jethro Gibbs. I've spent the last 16 years working for NCIS. If you've never heard of it, I wouldn't be surprised. Think of it as the FBI for the Navy and Marines. For the next several weeks I'm going to be drilling into your heads the basics of investigating a criminal case."

He paused long enough to take a sip of coffee before continuing.

"First off, introductions. Everyone tell me your name and what you hope to get out of this course," Gibbs said as he began handing out a forensic equipment checklist. "After that I want you to go through the van and fill up your forensic kits. Get everything on the list except for the cameras. We'll have to share those as there aren't enough to go around. Make sure you bring your forensic equipment to each class Or you're fired. When you're done with your kits you'll need to take your own fingerprints. This is standard procedure in case you accidentally touch something at a crime scene without gloves."

He then gave everyone a glare of warning.

"Which we shouldn't have to do because you'll be wearing gloves the entire time we're investigating a crime scene. But that's another class. Now tell me who you are, get your kits together and get your fingerprints taken."

[OCD is up!]

Gabrielle . . . boggled a lot. Did you seriously need all this stuff to figure out the guilty party? Really?

Even if she had been a snarky pain the last time, there was a reason Diana was back. She now remembered why.

"I'm K-Mart and I'm taking the course because... honestly, because it sounded interesting."

She somehow had the feeling that telling Gibbs she thought it'd sounded fun was a bad idea. Even if it was true.

"George Cooper," he said, feeling completely ill-at-ease in this particular class. At least the weird room was on something he knew about. "'M, ahhh, takin' this class because I wanted t'know how th' Dogs - th' constables think."

"I'm Gabrielle," she said, "and if Xena's the one who signed me up for this class, I'm not sure it meant what she thought it did."

. . . seriously, gloves? Forensic kits? What was all that about?

"Diana. I actually liked the class last time. We're not doing the same case, right?" Diana checked, trying to look as if she was bored.

"Jack Priest," Jack said, rising to his feet. "I'm in this class because my guardian's a private detective, and I wanted to learn more about how crimes are solved in this time."

"I'm Sam Winchester," he said, "and I'm taking this course because I've been thinking about studying law in college, and I figure it's probably a good idea to know about the things that happen before someone gets put on trial." That, and he'd been around enough supernatural crime scenes in his life that he wanted to see how regular rules applied.

K-Mart took her list and promptly started digging out everything she needed.

Holy shit, that was a lot of stuff.

"What t'bloody hell is all this used for?" George muttered under his breath, trying to assemble the list without knowing what any of it was.

Diana had already done this last time, so she finished pretty quickly.

"This is too much stuff to lug around everywhere," Gabrielle said to no one in particular as she stared at the rope and electrical cord.
bitten_notshy: ([neu] B+W what's that?)

Jack opened his case carefully and began cataloging the items. He was impressed -- he'd seen much of this in use before, but it was all a lot more than any detective in his time would have or carry, as far as he knew, and he couldn't make much sense of the biohazard equipment or the flash drive.

Ooh, a well-organized list. Sam liked lists a lot, and went through grabbing all the things he recognized, and making his best guess on the things he didn't.

Sam wasn't used to wearing gloves at crime scenes, and he'd never been fingerprinted yet, but he guessed both parts seemed like good ideas.
