Magick on the Fly - Thursday, 6/25 - Period Four

Today's class, there was nothing on the walls and nothing on the desks. Today, she just sat at the front.

"Today is very simple, class. Today we will be sharing stories and asking questions. That's all, nothing more or less. I don't believe in testing on a subject like this; I don't think it's really possible. So consider this something of a treat.

"This isn't about class, but what are you doing for the American holiday a week from Saturday?"

It had nothing to do with class whatsoever, but Jack didn't have much to say that did have to do with class. (Though there was a story he supposed he could share, if it came to that.) And, too, he was curious as to how the DCI would answer. Celebrating American Independence was, technically, treason.

An absolutely deft answer, and Jack smiled slightly at it even as he went to argue.

"So you aren't at all curious how they mark it? That is, you're a bit of an ambassador in this world. I might attend whatever festivities there are just to take in the atmosphere, as I would were I in Shanghai for their New Year." He gestured slightly, a sort of shrug. "But I am not in service to the crown."

"I can't argue with you on that," Jack said. But he'd learned something -- the crown clearly trusted her, but not so far that she could do as she pleased and know her integrity would not be questioned. (Though, to be honest, she didn't sound terribly curious, so he assumed some of this was a matter of personal taste.)

"Shall I let you know if anything unusually amusing happens on the island?"

"We should have an anti-Independence day." Diana informed him. "Not everyone here is American."

"We should," Jack agreed with a quick smile. "Drink tea and call them colonists."

"I think I'm technically a colonist." Diana pointed out. "Canada and all that. But it's a different colony."

Eleanor really didn't have much, and she wasn't up to telling her life story just yet. All she could think of without giving too much away was, "A friend and I used a glamour to enhance a disguise we'd made."

What a way to describe sneaking into a ball.

Dōjima was here, and totally woeful that this was her last class on the island.

She was actually done. So weird.

Savannah was indeed here. She looked sadder than her usual self.
