Slacking - Sixth Meeting [Friday, Period 1]

Max felt that as long as he had a nice tradition going he might as well keep it up, so he had his feet propped up on the desk as everyone arrived. He even threw in a fake snore or two. They weren't especially convincing, but they did amuse him so he didn't really mind. Again he waited until everyone had arrived and was seated and ready, and then a few minutes more just to watch them and see if they'd squirm, before sitting up abruptly and pulling of his sunglasses.

"Okay," he announced briskly. "Get back into the groups you were working in last week. Today you will begin planning your projects seriously. I'll be stopping by each group and getting you to explain what you're doing and I'll provide ~~interference~~ helpful suggestions. While you are free to leave after you've spoken to me, you should bear in mind that this will be your final project and you must complete the planning phase by next week's class meeting. So I strongly encourage you to get a good start on it now." Max grinned. Considering the level of harassment he intended to bring to bear on his students he suspected that leaving early to work on the assignment somewhere else would end up being significantly more productive than sticking around.

"Next week you will be presenting your projects and the plans you have made, including the modifications I will assign you today. That presentation will determine your final marks in this course." Which wasn't actually true. Max was far too lazy to actually evaluate any of his students with any sort of formal system. But none of them needed to know that.

"Now go ahead and get into your groups so I can ~~harass~~ assist you." Max was already privately congratulating himself on the brilliance of a project that took three weeks to complete. It meant he didn't actually have to do much planning or preparing for class. This was definitely a technique he was going to have to remember.

The first half of which is Max apparently taking a nap at his desk

Valentine found herself, very idly, wondering that sleeping thing was all just letting a joke go way beyond stale, or actually the first warning signs of narcolepsy.

Fiona was just a little tired of this.

That was why she moved to nudge his feet off the desk.

Max's feet hit the floor, but the only reaction that got was an exaggerated snore.

She stared at him for half a second before rolling her eyes.

"...dork."

Then she headed for her chair.

His lip twitched in amusement. He was pretty sure this was the first time he'd been told off by a student.

It probably wouldn't be the last time.

Find your partner and explain what you're doing to Max in more detail than last week. Be prepared for "help".

Claire sat next to Hannibal and was ready to explain their project.

[her mun, however, will be AFK a good part of the day!]

Hannibal took a seat next to Claire and was ready to get planning. Or almost ready. He was still kind of tired.

Effy was there, and while not actively looking for Valentine, she was fairly sure the other girl would come and find her on her own eventually anyway.

See? Good slacking.

And, sure enough, after her own moment or two of slacking off, Valentine slid into a desk beside Effy, scooting it closer to the other girl. "So, I got Turtle on board," she said, "which basically means she'll do everything."

"Sweet." Effy had to smirk a little at that. Excellent slacking. "How'd you work that?"

"Have you met Turtle?" Valentine asked with a smirk of her own. "All I had to do was mention the party and she jumped right at it."

Max walked over to the two of them and looked back and forth. "So tell me about your project."

"Beach party," Valentine offered with a shrug, then looked to Effy if she wanted to add anything more.

Effy shrugged similarly. "We're thinking sometime in the next week or so, and going to be roping in some help with the details."

Well, no, with most of it. But part of this was to learn how to work so that people wouldn't realise you were being quite as lazy as you were. So no saying that.

"Ah, recruiting is always a good strategy." Then Max grinned a not-remotely-reassuring grin. "I'll need a list of everyone you plan to bring in. I'll want to approve each of them."

Max hated it when idiot supervisors wanted to do that.

"Well," Valentine said, "we can tell you right off the bat that Turtle Wexler will be helping a lot."

"Why? What does she bring to the table that you can't do on your own?" Max had had a lot of terrible officers in his lifetime, so he knew exactly how to put that hint of sarcasm in his tone.

Helen looked around for Fiona.

She was right there, waving a little.

"So, we all ~~handwaving that we did it last week?~~ set?"

Helen nodded. "I believe so."

[ooc: What do we want to do?]

"Good."

[how about planning a beach party?]

"I must admit," Helen said. "I've rarely been to a party, much less given one."

"That's why I figure it's a good plan," she said with a lift of her head, "since I haven't either. It's a reasonable goal, but not too simple since we're both doing it for the first time."

Helen nodded slowly. "Sensible. And there must be books or something that tell us what to do."

"And I bet Dinah would know. Or maybe Peyton. There'd be people we could ask, anyway."

Helen nodded again. "I don't really know either of them, but perhaps we could include that as part of our planning?"

"They're my friends," and she was amazed at her own casualness at the mention of them.

"I'll ask them, see what they think."

"That would be helpful, thank you," Helen said. "I... am quite good at organizing, so I should be very able to make sure we have everything we need."

"And I have the funds for anything we'd need," she said with a nod.

"So... let's tell the professor."

"I do as well," Helen said. "The priests at least made sure I had a more than generous allotment of money - only fair since they were basically exiling me."

She nodded. "Let's do that.

Almost as if he'd been listening in, Max picked that precise moment to arrive. "So what are you two doing?"

"We will be organizing a beach party," Helen told him without preamble. "We have a number of ideas and plans already in place."

"Neither of us have done anything like that before," she continued, "so we figure it's a manageable, but not easy, goal."

"So what's your first step?" Max asked.

"Finding out what would be the basics for a party," she said after a moment, "research."

Edward was there and waited patiently for Emmett.

If you can figure out a way to ignore Max's constant "assistance"

If you've got an actual question that doesn't have to do with him trying to make your project as unwieldy as possible
