As if there had been no interruption the previous week, Max had his feet up on his desk and was leaned back in his chair with his sunglasses on. It was a tremendous relief to have whatever had been going on behind him since he was pretty sure that not teaching class wouldn't fly for too long. Besides, while Fiona wasn't bad, she didn't have nearly his depth of experience when it came to the subject, and Max tended to think that the most qualified available person should teach a subject.

And who was more qualified than himself when it came to slacking?

Once everyone had arrived he sat up abruptly and looked around. "Good to see you all survived my absence last week. As well as whatever weirdness was going on."

"Slacking is, as I hope you've come to realize, one of those subjects which is best learned through experience. No lecture can really impart the knowledge you need to do it effectively." The fact that Max was just plain awful at giving lectures (or staying awake for them, for that matter) had nothing to do with it. Really.

"With that in mind, today's assignment is actually fairly easy. You will get in troups of two or three and come up with a goal. You need to come up with something that you really do want to accomplish, and it needs to be something that will take some effort. This could be cleaning your room, or cleaning your instructor's room, or it could be taking a vacation somewhere nice. The important parts are that it's something you care about and it's something that requires work to do. So find yourselves partners or groups and come up with your goal. Once you come to me and tell me who's in your group and what you want to accomplish you're free to go."

Max paused just long enough that it might seem he was done talking before he spoke up again. "Oh, and while you're planning you should keep one important thing in mind. Whatever your goal, I'll take on the role of supervisor for it. You'll have to use the things we've discussed and practiced here in class in order to accomplish your goal. And pass." He grinned broadly. "Now get to it."

[I'm out of pocket for most of the weekend, but I'll try to answer questions if anyone has any. It's important that everyone work out their team and their goal by next week's class meeting. More on that in the OCD.]

"Only time baseball gets good is when there's a big giant fight on the field," he said, grinning. "Then, it's good. Okay, so baseball games can be a maybe. Uh, hm, shopping?"

What was he, a girl?

"Shopping would be awesome," she agreed. After all, Daddy gave her a credit card for emergencies. That totally counted.

"I think I'd be the one holding the bag and fending off would be over zealous admirers," he said and snickered.

Claire grinned. "Oh, so do you have someone in mind that you want to bring with you?"

"Probably my girlfriend," he said if she, you know, didn't deck him when he talked to her next. Ugh, stupid fire drill. "Angela."

"I don't think I've met her yet either," Claire said. "But that doesn't really matter."

"I think you'd like her," he said, nodding. "But, Angela likes everyone. So, if you haven't met her, I'm sure it's just a matter of time."

"I like most people too," she said. Except, you know, the ones who wanted to experiment on her or blow up cities or what-have-you.

"And hey, so do I so that works out," he said and grinned. "Who would you bring?"

"Um... I guess Jon," she said. "Assuming that our date goes well tonight."

"Jon," Hannibal said, trying to remember if they'd met. "I don't think I've met him ~~unless I've forgotten which is possible~~. What kind of date?"

"Jon O'Neill," she clarified. "We're going to dinner tonight. We went to the movies last weekend."

When their hormones were all crazy.

"Last weekend?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He clearly remembered. "And how did that go?"

"It was good, all things considered," Claire said, her cheeks going a little pink. "He said he was thinking about asking me out anyway, but probably would have waited a little longer."

"This place does tend to push you into doing things before you're really ready," Hannibal said. "Happened to me too."

"Oh, really?" Claire was curious now. "With what?"

"There was a day a few months back where none of us could lie," he told her, wincing. "I kind of confessed a lot of feelings for Angela before I was really ready to deal with them."

Oh, Claire was glad that didn't happen while she was here.

"But it sounds like it worked out okay, if you guys are still together?"

"We are," he said, nodding. "We just kind of ignored that day for awhile before we were both ready again. So, yeah. It wasn't a bad day but being forced to do things isn't something I'm a fan of."

"Fair enough," she agreed. "I don't think many people are fans of that."

"At least we could blame it on the island and not one of us going insane," he said, shrugging. "And, like you said, could have turned out worse."

"Somehow I get the feeling that the island drives everyone at least a little bit insane," she said.

"You are not lying," he said and laughed. "And, at least, you sort of get used to it. Sort of."

Claire grinned. "That's what Peter keeps telling me."

"Then, he's doing his duty and giving you good advise," Hannibal said. "You wanna be the one to tell the professor what we're doing or you want me to? Or gang up on him?"
