Anakin was checking his chrono, then his comlink, as the students arrived. "Today we're flying capital ships," he said, flicking his hands toward the screen set up in the corner. "Specifically this ~~or the first minute and a half anyway~~ capital ship. It was called the Invisible Hand and when I was flying it, half of it had already broken up in the atmosphere, the rudder that steered the ship had been in that half, and the thrusters weren't firing enough to stop us. The equipment was also set up for a species other than human and I couldn't read the controls."

Anakin had landed anyway. He was just that good. There wasn't a pilot in a million that could replicate what he'd done.

"Since I was working under rather...strained...circumstances, we'll do something a little easier to live through," he said. "You'll have the entire ship, and the back half will be on fire. The controls will be set up for your species and you'll be able to read the controls."

Yes, he thought that was cutting them a break. Anakin was odd. "Begin!"

"I'm going to have an aunt or uncle who's almost fifteen years younger than I am. We reach new heights in screwed-up-ness," Ben said. "Are you bringing anything? I'm thinking a book on therapy won't be appreciated."

"Uh huh and your grandma's barely a year older than Jaina," and wasn't that just a little gross? "I picked up a stuffed animal." A plush fuzzy bunny because he thought it would amuse Jaina if she saw it.

Ben made a little "ew" face. "I hadn't even thought about the age difference with Jaina," he said.

"Best not to," John suggested. "There's only more scarring to be had there."

"I'm scarred enough," Ben declared.

"You've got two more years of potential Fandom scarring alone. Good luck with that." John just hoped he could get through the next three weeks without adding much more to his own pile.

"I'll just ignore it," Ben said. Because that'd work.

"That'll last," John shook his head. "How bad off are you after last week?"

Ben gave him a carefully neutral look. "On what kind of scale?"

"On a scale from never using a public restroom again to hiding in one for the rest of the year."

"I'm not a big fan of public restrooms in general," Ben replied.

Ah, deflection. Spend less time with Ender, Ben.

"Okay," John gave him a look. "How about scale of one to ten?"

"About a seven?" he hedged.

John looked slightly guilty. "I hope none of that's my fault." He hadn't been entirely nice to Tahiri after all.

Ben waved his hand. "Not at all. It's just...stuff."

Quite the masters of communication, this family.

"Stuff that makes a weekend of hormones less fun?" John verified.

There was a quickly repressed wince. "Yeah."

That was just sad. "Ah. Stuff from home or from here?"

"Stuff from home that made stuff that happened here really awkward," Ben finally replied.

"Sounds like some major stuff," John replied. "It stuff you...wanna whatever?"

"Talk about?" Ben guessed after a moment.

"Right," John said with a little wave. "I hear it's helpful or something."

Ben glanced at Anakin. "Not here."

"Good call," John agreed. "Later always works."

"Tomorrow?" Ben asked.
