Today when the students arrived, the Danger Shop was already set to today's terrain. Students would see pristine beaches stretching for miles, with an island about a half-mile offshore.

"You may be wondering what sort of terrain you need to learn about with a beach," Ghanima began once everyone had arrived. "Rather than build sandcastles, however, today we'll be learning about scuba diving. Water covers most of this planet, so being able to move through it is an important ability."

"Scuba diving may be performed for a number of reasons, both personal and professional. Most people begin though recreational diving, which is performed purely for enjoyment and has a number of distinct technical disciplines to increase interest underwater, such as cave diving, wreck diving, ice diving and deep diving."

"Divers may be employed professionally to perform tasks underwater. Most of these commercial divers are employed to perform tasks related to the running of a business involving deep water, including civil engineering tasks such as in oil exploration, underwater welding or offshore construction. Commercial divers may also be employed to perform tasks specifically related to marine activities, such as naval diving, including the repair and inspection of boats and ships, salvage of wrecks or underwater fishing, like spear fishing."

"Other specialist areas of diving include military diving, with a long history of military frogmen in various roles. They can perform roles including direct combat, infiltration behind enemy lines, placing mines or using a manned torpedo, bomb disposal or engineering operations. In civilian operations, many police forces operate police diving teams to perform search and recovery or search and rescue operations and to assist with the detection of crime which may involve bodies of water. In some cases diver rescue teams may also be part of a fire department or lifeguard unit."

She went on to explain how to suit up properly, as well as the mechanics of scuba diving. "Today we're looking at two ways you might need to use the ocean, and scuba, to achieve a goal," Ghanima continued. "There's three scenarios today, and you can choose just one, or all, if you have the time."

"So suit up, and enjoy the water."

Chat, listen, wish someone had dumped you in a cold ocean earlier this week...

At least there was diving equipment and breathing wouldn't be an issue? She'd done that before, only she'd been hauled along underwater by people who could swim. Tahiri wondered if she could hitch a ride with someone this time. Huh . . .

Dinah had done this on the cruise, and really enjoyed it, so she was checking her equipment as Ghanima talked, glancing up to take note of points she was making.

"Dinah," Triela nodded to the other girl with a sort of half-smile as she began sorting through her own gear.

"Triela, hey." Then a pause, as Dinah realized Triela had said hi first, and she was acting more normal. "Hey! You, um. Feeling better?"

"Yeah." Triela took a deep breath. "I wanted to apologize for the other day," she said.

Dinah was so relieved Triela was acting like herself, which meant she'd decreased her dosage again, that she just blinked at her. "For what?"

"Upsetting you." Triela's smile was a bit wry. "Just because I couldn't tell at the time doesn't mean I couldn't figure it out later. After..."

"Oh. Ohhh, yeah." Dinah laughed a little, relief making her smile. "You scared me. Sheesh. Please don't ever do that again!" She shook her head. "I really would've gone to Mr. Algren today if you weren't better already." She cocked her head. "You felt well enough to go back to the usual, yesterday?"

"I talked to Amber Saturday night," Triela explained. "It was... helpful."

And the fact that by the time she'd finished throwing up from the withdrawal the pollen had been gone had helped rather a lot.

"That's good!" Yay Amber! Although Dinah had to wonder how that conversation had gone, what Triela's roomie had said that made the difference. "You don't think you'll want to do that again?"

"Want to?" Triela asked with a sigh. "Probably."

"But I'm not sure I can afford to. I only have so much of my emergency supply, and it really needs to be saved for emergencies." Also, she didn't really like who she was when she was under that much medication.

Jaina was feeling much more able to move today, which she thought was a good thing with this class. Instead she had the little issue of everytime she got into water in any scenario like these, she tried to almost drown. Hmm.

Honestly, as long as she wasn't asked to get on a boat as part of today's exercise, Firekeeper was just fine. Using 'equipment' for diving was something new, though, so she paid careful attention during those parts of the lecture.

Ben thought back to Katchoo's bucket of water, which reminded him of what he'd been doing to necessitate a bucket of water being dumped on him, which meant that he'd just be over here blushing himself to death.

He was still listening carefully to the mechanical parts of the lecture, of course.

"Ano... Ben. Is she... serious?!" Kenshin asked in an undertone that wasn't quite a lecture.

Ben nodded. "You don't swim?" he guessed.

He shook his head.

"I can swim," he said. "But. Like that?"

"The complete submersion?" Ben asked. "The air tanks will help you, truly."

"They seem... Heavy."

And the wetsuits, uh.

"Only on land," Ben said. "In the water, things are lighter."

"I guess I'll give it a try..."

Ben gave him a reassuring smile. "You can stick with me, if you'd like," he said. "I've used similar equipment before."

Fiona looked neither pleased nor displeased at the thought of going underwater. She just thought it might be interesting if the Danger Shop had put in some of the wildlife down there.

Oh no. Leto stared at Ghanima. She wouldn't make him swim, would she?
