Public Speaking, Fourth Period, June 5th

Glinda looked like the cat who swallowed the canary this afternoon, and the students had frosted pineapple cookies to snack on with their lemonade today.

"Welcome," she said, once everyone had settled in. "I'd like to apologize for last week's class. I hope no one was too inconvenienced by it. If you look at your syllabus, you'll see that last week we should have covered outlining a speech." She began to pass around a handout. "Because I don't believe that you want to listen to two lectures in one day, read this instead. Now then, public speaking occasions that everyone should prepare for!"

She tapped her wand three times, and upon the table there appeared a tiny wedding cake, and a tiny podium with an even tinier award on it. "Weddings, and circumstances in which you have been awarded for your work. There are many others as well, but we will cover just these two today. Half of you will work on 'maid of honor' or 'best man' speeches, and the other half will work on your award speeches. No Oscars shenanigans, though," she continued. "Imagine yourself in a business setting, please."

"Now then," she said, clapping her hands twice, which caused the tiny cake and podium to vanish, "let's get to work!"

[OCD up shortly, SP to be expected for parts of today as a heads up not to be expected until this afternoon]

As soon as a wedding cake popped up, Turtle groaned and prayed to God that she'd be in the business half of the class. She could do business. She hated weddings. She wasn't very good for a maid of honor, either, especially considering she'd apparently inspired her sister to run out of her own wedding a while back....

Joan wasn't ogling Turtle.

But she was wondering if the other girl had seen Marco at all in the last few days and kept shooting glances in her direction.

Turtle was pretty sure after about the third or fourth glance that Joan might actually be looking at her and not something else. She ducked her head a moment to wipe a hand over her mouth and run her tongue over her teeth, figuring that maybe she had something on her face or stuck between them, before glancing back with a questioning look on her face.

Okay, she could totally ask this without being awkward, right?

Joan leaned over. "Have you seen Marco lately?"

Turtle shook her head a little, tilting her head at Joan. "Not really," she whispered back, wondering that if Joan hadn't seen him lately, if he was avoiding her. Of course, she hadn't seen him lately, either, but that didn't seem as important as him potentially avoiding Joan.

"Why?"

Joan shrugged. "Just wondering. I haven't really seen him this week."

Or last week, now that she thought about it. Hm.

"He probably just got a new video game and forgot that there's an outside world," Turtle offered by way of explanation, although that almost made her worried. He did usually stop into the store to bug her most Saturdays, but hadn't last time...

"Maybe I should stop by his room after class," Joan mused.

Then again, feeling like this... that could be a monumentally bad idea.

Turtle took a moment to consider the implications of that and decided that she didn't like the implications of that. Not one bit. But she couldn't exactly admit to it, so she just, "You go do that." In her effort to sound nonchalant and uncaring, she probably sounded anything but.

Re: Lecture

Joan chewed on her lip.

"Want to come with me?"

Re: Lecture

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Turtle arched an eyebrow.

And then had to decidedly tell herself to not pay attention to what Joan was doing with her lip there.

Why would Joan want her to come with her? But with the attention now not being paid to Joan's lip chewing, it was hard to think of a possible answer.

"...okay. It might take two of us to pull him away from his video games, anyway."

Turtle was...pretty sure she should not be having the kinds of thoughts she was having right now.

Mostly Joan wanted Turtle there so she didn't do anything stupid, like try to jump Marco.

But then she noticed Turtle staring at her lip and got all self-conscious and... what the hell, she had never been into girls, well, except sorta Judith but that was different and why wouldn't her brain STOP.

"Yeah, he gets really involved in them," she managed.

Turtle thought she noticed Joan noticing her noticing, and so her eyes drifted toward Joan's to try to tell for sure, but the thought of actually making eye contact right now sent her face a noticeable pink and her eyes distinctly elsewhere.

"After class then, I guess?"

Joan nodded and kept her gaze just over Turtle's shoulder cause, yeah, she was kind of embarrassed about the thoughts going through her mind at the moment.

"Sounds good."

Re: Lecture

Turtle nodded a little. "Good," she said. "Just as long as it doesn't take too long. I've got a...thing that the mun has only just now remembered later..."

"It shouldn't take long," Joan said. "We can stop by handwavily so I don't joss myself for later real quick after class."

Blair was still annoyed at Chuck and more than happy to take it out on the world if given enough reason.

Of course she was in the wedding one. Turtle was working on a speech that talk a lot about blah blah blah happiness, blah blah blah trying to make it sound like you weren't throwing your life away because you were getting married only because your mother wanted to you to blah blah blah I guess your husband isn't too much of a jerkface blah blah blah.

Not that she was imagining any particular sisters and their fiances or anything, really.

Hmmm, okay, what kind of awards did businesses give out? Joan really had no idea, so she started drafting a totally generic speech.
