Detention, Danger Shop and Beyond, 8 AM till 2 PM

"Morning," Mitchell greeted; he was starting to look less like he'd been on a bender the longer he was staying off the blood, and so this morning he actually looked fairly fit and chipper for the job. "You're all here because you've misbehaved, and the school's appointed me for your punishment. I'm Mitchell." Beat. "Don't call me professor. It makes me feel old."

He left the sign-in sheet on the desk at the front of the class.

"Today, we're putting you all to work," he said, "We've got a lot of dead alligators out there, so I hope you know how to get out some bloodstains. Then we'll come back around to the Danger Shop for lunch and you'll hear the rest of it."

Mitchell grinned at the class. "We'll have proper detention." It was possible that, for all his heartfelt dedication to the job of being human, he wasn't, in fact, all that good at it.

"Oh, and let me know if you're squeamish."

Mitchell used to clean at a hospital. He had different ideas about disgusting.

"So you were born like that?" he asked, with professional curiosity, and sipped his coffee.

Three people, and so far, none of them had actually been human. The ordinary kind, at least.

"No, the tooth develops during purberty. It's a sign that a witch belongs to the Hourglass," Karla explained, helping herself to another scone. "Rather, that she's a natural Black Widow."

The clarification probably didn't help.

"In Kaeleer, my Realm, there are several castes for female witches," she explained, giving him a look of polite impatience. "Priestesses, Healers, Black Widows, and Queens. Any witch can become a Priestess; to be any of the others, she must be born to that caste. Each of the others come with innate traits and powers, which mainfest during puberty. Black Widows happen to get an additional physical trait as well, the serpent's tooth."
