How to Dress Like a Pop Star [Class 3] [Period 3] [5/29]

The classroom set-up was the same as the previous week's. While Vince was up on fashion, he wasn't so up on interior decorating.

"You kids are great," was how Vince started today's lecture. He wore "Really. When people talk about people being unique snowflakes, that's true. But you all are like... beautiful, unique, towering snow people. With golden noses, corncob pipes encrusted with diamonds, and great big rubies for eyes. But enough of that. I've got a class to teach, right?"

He twirled about. Today he was wearing the mirror ball suit. Silver, glittery material for the top and trousers, with a plunging v neckline.

"The future is not now," Vince said. "Because the future is never now, because it'll always be in the future and not now."

There was a reason he wasn't a scientist.

"So really, a wonderful way to be a fashion icon is dressing beyond the realm of today. Dress like today is the future, and you're going to be the one everybody is looking at. I mean, look at me. This is a personal design. Perfected. You don't see anyone else in something like this. That's because it won't be common fashion for at least ten years. Brilliant, right?"

He didn't really wait for anyone to agree. He just assumed everyone did.

"The key to dressing like the future, though, is making sure to use things that aren't common. Shiny fabric. Metal. Plastic. Ceramics. That sort of thing. Latex is good, too. Think in color combinations that aren't really used. With all this, you can create a fresh look that'll work great."

He grinned at the class.

"So now, it's New Style time. We're going to look to the future. But with a side helping of modern suburbia. You know, polo shirts and slacks. Sweaters tied around the waist. That sort of thing. Combine the two, and you've got your new style for the week. Pair up, have fun, and continue to be beautiful."

"I think spending all that time watching Jessi do ballet really rubbed off on me," Claudia said with a grin, sitting down to tug the boots on. She'd completely redesign her outfit to go with these boots.

"Jessi. She's the one who, uh. . . ." White boy had no idea how to put this. ". . . the one who's up on all the race issues?"

"Yep!" Claudia said, pleased that Priestly could remember her friends and their two distinct personality traits. "She practically twirls into every room."

Well, he supposed he had to be prepared to meet them someday, right? "If anyone can actually twirl in those horse shoes, I will be very, very impressed. D'you think the teach'll let us keep any of this stuff?"

Priestly was admittedly kind of loving the orange dress.

"I hope so," Claudia said. "Or at least tell us where he found it all!" She grinned. "You really like that dress, huh?"

"It's fuzzy." This, to Priestly, explained everything.

"And orange!" Claudia added. That was pretty much what had sold her on the dress.

"Glad we see eye to eye on this."
