Magick on the Fly - Thursday, 5/28 - Period Four
"Today, we'll be talking about specific substitutions you can make in a working. I will, of course, be covering the specifics for my own disciplines, but I would urge you to consider similar alternatives if your brand of thaumaturgy is somewhat different than my own. There is always a solution, I assure you."
That covered, and a few students eyed, she continued.
"Magick is, of course, an act of will first and foremost, but other things can add their share to a working. I speak, of course, of things like candles and herbs and stones. Or even the date on the calendar, according to astrologists.
"And sometimes, as we've said, situations are not ideal."
"So today I'll be providing you some information on substitutions, single items you can use to simulate others. Some might seem simple but I assure you they work easily enough. We won't be having an activity today, however; you can leave after the lecture, or stay to discuss the lesson. Consider it a summer boon."
They deserved it, by and large.
"Rosemary is a very good all-purpose herb for any ritual or spellwork you might be trying. The only exception to this is anything related to sleep or dreaming, at which point I would recommend lavender.
"Quartz or rock salt can be used for nearly any spell you care to name in substitute for a rock or crystal. Double sided is best for any working that requires energy to move back and forth, but any will work.
"A white candle is indispensable as it can do what any colored candle might.
"Rope or thread is good to keep with you, as it can make up for any number of things through producing shapes.
"And should you worry about the planetary alignment for your working, you can use certain hours and even minutes when you can't wait for the right date."
See? her smile said. Easy enough.
