Basketball- 6th Period- Class #2

When the students arrived today, they'd find an apologetic-looking Lily standing by the bleachers, waiting.

"I just wanted to say," she said, "that I'm very sorry for last week. I shouldn't have told you how to play." She'd told them to try to get the ball in the basket. "This week, you play however you want to play, kids!"

And then she took a seat on the bleachers and pulled out her guitar.

This class just got better and better even if the teacher was a little off the rails. There were virtually no rules and Professor Aldrin was giving them a free concert.

Hannibal picked up a ball and worked on jumpers today.

What? "She told us how to play?" Adora looked sadly at the ball. Perhaps she was just not meant to engage in this sport.

"Do you want me to show you how?" Hannibal asked. "Or do you have it?"

"I seem to have missed the part where she explained how this worked," Adora said sadly. "But if you're willing to share, friend, I would be very grateful."

Woe, the failure of not understanding basketball!

"Well, I noticed you kicking the ball last week," he said, trying not to laugh, "so I figured you were still confused. Basketball is all about the hands, mostly. We've gotta try to get the ball into the hoop."

"And not by kicking?" In her defense, the ball had bounced off her foot.

"Not by kicking," Hannibal said, grinning. "Basically, we've gotta toss it into the basket with our hands. That's how you score points. If you make it, it's either two or three points."

"How do I know which?" Because naturally, she would want more points. "And you are aware there is a hole in the bottom of your basket?"

"There's supposed to be," Hannibal told her. "It's a basketball hoop. If there wasn't a hole, it would slow games down because people would have to retrieve the ball each time someone scored."

And that would make the sport of basketball very boring.

"As for points, it depends on where you stand." He pointed to the spots inside the three point line. "Anywhere in here is two points. If you got out past this line," he said, indicating the three point line, "then it's three points."

In Adora's mind, if it was basketball, there should be actual baskets somewhere and perhaps smaller balls to collect in the baskets, as that is the purpose of a basket.

Oh well, she trusted Hannibal would know best.

She stood outside the line with a ball in hand. "So I stand here with this ball and throw it through the not-basket for points?"

"Yep," he said, giving her a nod. "That's the basic. There's other rules and the actual game is very fast paced but the object is to get the ball into the basket."

Adora looked between the ball and the basket. And then she threw it, sending the ball delicately through the net. "Hmm. Is it supposed to touch the sides of the basket?" Hers hadn't.

"Wooow," Hannibal said, blinking. "It can but it doesn't have to. That was a swish so to speak. Damn good shot."

"Horde training has its rewards," she grinned, pleased that she could do at least one part of this game well.

"Wanna try something else?" Hannibal asked curiously, tossing his own ball away.

"Sure!" Adora was always game. "What would you like me to do?"

"You try to get past me and get a basket," he said, coming closer. "I try to stop that. You're offense, I'm defense. You can't physically knock me over though. Those are fouls."

"Get past you?" She quirked an eyebrow, holding her ball between her hands. "How will you try to stop it?"

"I block you from the basket," he said, stretching each leg before rubbing his hands together. "I try to take the ball and I try to block your shot."

Adora smirked. "Think you're ready, Hannibal not-a-King?"

"I think so," he said, keeping his eyes on the ball and her feet. He wasn't sure if she had the notion of dribbling and running before shooting down yet. He thought he had a chance.

Not knowing the dribbling was required, Adora chose to sidestep and see if she could shoot over his rather tall form there.

Oooh, right, he hadn't explained the dribbling. But, he saw the sidestep coming and tried to poke the ball out of her hands.

"Hey!" The ball smacked back against her breasts but she managed to hold it there before trying to run around him.

And he slid in front of her, notating that he had to teacher her dribbling in a bit, before reaching in and trying to steal the ball from her.

Her ball was gone! She'd failed at her task so quickly, but it wasn't stopping her from trying to get it back.

She would leap on his back if she had to.

Now that Hannibal had the ball, he dribbled it some and ran around her before trying to break for the basket.

Adora leaped for his back, ready to take him down like a Horde robot before letting him steal her points.

No one should give her goals.

"Crap crap crap, what're you doing?" he asked, jerking backwards and nearly falling over. "What are you doing?"

"Stopping you!" She told him, hands reaching over his shoulder to smack at the ball.

"This isn't allowed," he said, laughing despite the girl on his back. "This is called a foul!"

"You said a foul was knocking you over," she argued. "You are still standing!"

"I need to get you a rule book," he said, trying to keep the ball down as he moved towards the basket. "This isn't allowed but you can keep trying!"

Against the rules! Well, she certainly couldn't break rules, now could she?

With an uncharacteristic humph, Adora dismounted and crossed her arms to watch him steal her shot. "This sport is overly complicated."

"It's not," he said, staggering forward to make an easy layup. "I need to get you a rulebook, that's all."

As much as she preached about the important part being how one played the game, Adora was not used to being the loser.

The last person to best her was He-Man and she'd gotten her co-worker to shoot him in the back. So.

"I think that would be an excellent idea! I could study and then be a much better competitor for you boys."

"I'll pick you up one sometime this week," he said and tossed her the ball back. "For now, work on your shooting. You're really good at that."

She flipped her hair over her shoulder and smiled at the compliment. "I will do my best, coach!"

Hannibal laughed before jogging over to retrieve his own ball so he could shoot hoops with her.

Riggins thought this lady was crazy and thanked god she wasn't coaching an actual basketball team. He wondered if he could get away with bringing in a football and saying that's how he played basketball.

Today though he was just shooting hoops casually like he did last week.

Yakko tried to play basketball by flinging the ball towards the basket with the power of telekinesis.

It wasn't working. He wasn't telekinetic.

But he was somehow levitating while concentrating, which was probably a little weird.

She's not crazy, really.

...Okay yes she is.

I tried so very hard to post this to radio this morning, you don't even know.
