Fashion! Releasing Your Inner Superhero, etc. [Thursday, May 14, 1st period]

"It is far too early," Edna grumbled as she stomped up to the students assembled in the Danger Shop with a cup of coffee almost as tall as she was. "People in the fashion industry seldom trouble with the bothersome morning hours."

She glanced around at the faces assembled before her. "I am Edna Mode, and you fortunate few have been graced with my presence for the precious time between fashions seasons," she announced. "Because you signed up for this class, you either have grand plans of becoming superheroes or have difficulty reading and understanding long words." Her gaze rested on a few students that she thought that might apply to. "Either way, it is far to much work to get out of taking my course. People pay me thousands of dollars to notice them! Why wouldn't you want to be here?"

She didn't stop to let anyone answer that.

"Today you will tell me your name--" she meant a superhero name, "and your boring alterego name if you have one. If I do not find the names to be suitable, I will give you another one!"

She sniffed. "And after that, you will design a logo for your superhero uniform." A snap from her finger and a logo appeared in midair. She smiled. "I do enjoy this room. This is an interesting logo! It is sleek, it has interesting colors, it has an "I" for Incredible for villains who can read...excellent." She'd designed it. "This is just as interesting. THIS is a crime against people with eyes," she snapped. "It's gaudy and pink and incomprehensible! Bah! Do not do such things!"

She clapped her hands together and tables full of fabric (and yes, more than a little bit of glitter. She'd taken the deluge as a 'we're so glad you're here' thing), piping, and very sharp scissors. "I will be walking around and offering critique on your choices, as will my assistant, Ms. Davis."

She clapped her hands together again. "Begin!"

"They aren't easy, but you could probably learn. But yeah, a gun would be simpler. I need to go to the gun range sometime soon. Don't want to get out of practice over the summer." Dinah tilted her head, thinking. "You could get special tranquilizer darts for criminals you're bringing in, or net darts, or gas bullets. Money really does help in the crimefighting biz," she had to admit.

Chuck smirked. "It's not really an area I'm going to explore in the future but that's good to know. I think I'll leave the hero'ing to people, well, like you."

Nice people. Who cared about others.

Chuck might care! About some people. Sometimes....

"There are guys who do it anyway, without powers, but if it's not your thing, well," Dinah had to shrug, philosophical, then got curious. "Chuck, are you just gonna be Rich Guy when you graduate, or is there something you're going to be doing to stay rich, or get more rich?"

Chuck snickered. "I'm not planning to spend my life living off my trust fund. Though I could if I wanted to."

Couldn't help but throw that in.

"My father owns a real estate company and I'm planning to take that over when the time is right." Ah, nepotism.

"Sooo, property and home-building? That kind of stuff?" Dinah asked, considering that. "Not exactly exciting, but I guess you could build your own ideal city that way."

"We invest a lot of money too. The hotel I live in, in New York, we own that and I've got a club in Alexandria," Chuck said. "You're right; it's not extremely exciting but you can do exciting stuff with the money you earn."

"Charities and helicopters?"

Yeah, Dinah thinks all gazillionaires are secretly like Bruce Wayne. Why wouldn't you be?

"Something like that," Chuck said with a smile. "What about you? You really want to do this hero stuff?"

"Yup!" She grinned at him. "It won't pay the rent, but that's what being a private investigator is for. I want to help people, and I've got these abilties to help level the field, so..."

"That's very noble of you," Chuck said, smirking. "So you've got double the reason to work in this class. You can actually use this stuff in the future."

Chuck hoped he'd never have to.

"In theory, yeah." Dinah might have sent a boggling look over at Edna. "Although I'm thinking Tweety may stay on Fandom Island, and not make it back to New Gotham. If only 'cause my sister would have a hernia laughing about it."

Chuck snickered. "Yeah, I get it. Not exactly the most frightening of names."

"I was hoping this class would help me toughen up my image and get a cool alternate identity," Dinah admitted. "Noooot so much. And you get to be Mr. Magnetism or Mr. Seduction or whichever. At least that fits."

"Does it?" Chuck asked innocently. "I don't know about that..."

Dinah laughed, looking down, and tried not to smirk, one hand up to hopefully cover most of the pink on that side of her face. "Anybody who listens to Radio knows that." She gave him a sideways look. "How is Dean these days?"

Chuck smirked. "He's as pleasant as ever. Still think he's harboring a crush on me, the poor guy."

Yeeeeeeah right.

"Maybe he'll make an appearance at my birthday party," Chuck said. "You're going, right?"

"Definitely! You came to mine, and I already have an idea for a present," she said with a small grin. "Was Blair really serious about the green, and not inviting that Serena girl?"

"Serious about both. The theme I think you'll be able to get away with not participating in but if you try to smuggle Serena in then there might be trouble," Chuck said, looking amused. "Blair is not a fan of my dear sister."

"Sister-- oh! This is Eric's older sister, right? He mentioned her before," Dinah said, enlightened. "You guys don't want her here?"

She messed around with the bird of prey design, trying to make it fit into a little circle.

"She's not really our timeline's Serena so that's kind of weird for everybody," he said. "I'm all for having family around but Blair and Serena had a falling out a while ago."

"Don't worry about Serena. If she really wants to show up, she'll do it," Chuck said. He almost hoped she would. The cat fight that would ensue would be epic.

"Well, that's good. I wouldn't blame her, that was a pretty blatant insult," Dinah said, shaking her head. "You know, I still haven't met Blair? No classes together, and she's not into fighting or acting, so... Frankly, I'd be scared *not* to show up in green, if that's typical."

Chuck laughed. "You're not alone there, trust me. Hannibal's never met her either and he's almost afraid to. She can be kind of intimidating."

That was an understatement.

"This weekend, then, I'll say thanks for the party, like a hundred other people, and get it over with." Dinah grinned. "And hand over your present."

"You don't have to get me anything," Chuck said, meaning it. He expected gifts from a select few people but other than that, he just wanted people to party and pay attention to him.

"It's nothing big. Just an idea I had that might make you laugh." Dinah grinned at him. "You can buy your own Maseratis."
