Fashion! Releasing Your Inner Superhero, etc. [Thursday, May 14, 1st period]

"It is far too early," Edna grumbled as she stomped up to the students assembled in the Danger Shop with a cup of coffee almost as tall as she was. "People in the fashion industry seldom trouble with the bothersome morning hours."

She glanced around at the faces assembled before her. "I am Edna Mode, and you fortunate few have been graced with my presence for the precious time between fashions seasons," she announced. "Because you signed up for this class, you either have grand plans of becoming superheroes or have difficulty reading and understanding long words." Her gaze rested on a few students that she thought that might apply to. "Either way, it is far to much work to get out of taking my course. People pay me thousands of dollars to notice them! Why wouldn't you want to be here?"

She didn't stop to let anyone answer that.

"Today you will tell me your name--" she meant a superhero name, "and your boring alterego name if you have one. If I do not find the names to be suitable, I will give you another one!"

She sniffed. "And after that, you will design a logo for your superhero uniform." A snap from her finger and a logo appeared in midair. She smiled. "I do enjoy this room. This is an interesting logo! It is sleek, it has interesting colors, it has an "I" for Incredible for villains who can read...excellent." She'd designed it. "This is just as interesting. THIS is a crime against people with eyes," she snapped. "It's gaudy and pink and incomprehensible! Bah! Do not do such things!"

She clapped her hands together and tables full of fabric (and yes, more than a little bit of glitter. She'd taken the deluge as a 'we're so glad you're here' thing), piping, and very sharp scissors. "I will be walking around and offering critique on your choices, as will my assistant, Ms. Davis."

She clapped her hands together again. "Begin!"

Edna glanced at her notepad and then back up at Jenny. "You are an exception because your name has panache, darling," she declared. "I have run into dreadful people named Humperdink and Arthur and Frank trying to use those as superhero names. It will never do. Can you imagine bursting into a bank being robbed and announcing 'stop! I am Frank and I am here to save you!' Peh."

"Dinah Lance. I mean, that's my real life name, and..." Okay, Black Canary was personal, and she wasn't sure if she should claim it, so maybe another name? Just for now? Like Huntress?

She had a mental image of Helena glaring at her.

"...Batgirl?"

Now she had Barbara giving her a dubious look inside her head. Still easier to take.

"Do you have ears like a bat? An ability to hang upside-down? A habit of leaving guano everywhere? No. Pick a different animal," Edna declared, waving her hand.

"Wallflower?" Edna repeated disdainfully. "How will that ever make the villains quake in their fashionable boots? 'STOP! Or don't...I'll be over here, trying not to be noticed.' Bah."

Oh, bloody hell, it was another one of these classes. Arthur had no idea how he'd wound up in this one. "I am Prince Arthur Pendragon," he started, then decided to stop. He was leaving off the of Camelot for the occasion.

He could've gone with the same as in Sir Hammer's class, but honestly, she intimidated him too much to go with Killing Machine.

"No," Edna said sharply. "Prince is a tiny little man who wears stacked heels and strange jumpsuits before he changed his name to an incomprehensible symbol. Arthur does my accounting. Try again."

No, he didn't think he needed another name.

"Hunter," Edna repeated thoughtfully. "That has possibilities, as long as you do not insist on wearing camouflage, bright orange vests and horrifying trucker hats."

Fiona was utterly mortified. She had no idea what this woman was talking about, nor was she quite sure she wanted to. 'Superhero?' What made them different than a regular hero? And why did she need another name? She clung fiercely to the one she had.

"Fiona Paige Post," she said firmly.

And that was all. She refused to add anything else.

"Absolutely not," Edna replied. "That's barely acceptable as a alterego name and will never do for a super. Mr. Incredible! Elastigirl! Frozone! Those are good names. Try again."

"I-I'm Shilo Wallace, and my superhero name is... is..." Shilo got a blank expression on her face. She had been thinking about this all last night, before she'd fallen asleep! "It's Future Imp. Short for Future Imperfect."

And now it sounded utterly stupid to her.

"Hmmmm," Edna said, tapping her pen against her lips. "It has possibilities. Why do you want your enemies to know you are imperfect?"

Emma was already unsettled, what with glitter falling from the sky, and now there was a midget with bad glasses telling them to pick superhero names.

"Frost, darling," she said, posture perfect as she looked at the little woman. "Emma Frost."

"I like it," Edna said. "Like Jenny Sparks, it has style, with none of that boring mundane 'call me Bob' about it. Plus the possibilities in costume options...whites and icy blues....excellent."

Claudia had dressed very carefully for today's class: turquoise stiletto heels, pink poofy miniskirt over paisley leggings, bright yellow tank top layered over a bright turquoise one, and her hair in a long French braid. She looked a little like a box of Crayons come to life.

"I'm Claudia Kishi," she said, "but I guess you can call me the Artist!"

Edna clapped her hands over her eyes. "I'm blinded!" she cried. "My God, girl, what are you wearing? You don't have to wear all of the colors together to show that you know they exist! You are causing planes to crash! Small children to cry! No! No, I will not allow it!"

"My name is Alice Liddell," she said, folding her hands behind her back. "I must say, I was quite fond of being Queen Alice, though a bit sad I didn't have a color the way the Red Queen and White Queen did."

Momoko stepped up cheerfully and gave a small salute. "Real name... Momoko Akatsutsumi! Nice to meet you!" She paused a moment, dropping her arm. "And, uhm, do you want my real other name or a made-up one?"
