My Life as a Buddy Movie | Period 2 | Wednesday | May 13

It hadn't been all that fucking easy to get up but he'd managed it and he managed to be in the classroom (the school looked a lot smaller from the outside) without getting lost. Angelic sense of direction and all. Or maybe he'd just gotten lucky. What the fuck ever. What mattered was he was there, sprawled in the comfy chair and feet up on the desk.

He could definitely get used to having some authority again.

Once the kids filed in, Loki didn't even move. Just stayed relaxed while he talked.

"So, I don't think I know any of you." If he did, he wasn't going to say. "And I really don't fucking care that much if I never learn your name. I'll just give you a nickname each class. Call it personalization my way. My name's Loki. Just Loki. First person to make fun of that name, well, you'll just have to wait and see what happens. Anyway, if you're here, you're probably here for My Life as a Buddy Movie. Fucking awesome name, isn't it?"

He had an ego.

"Anyway, this class is going to teach you how to work cohesively with another person without absolutely wanting to drive their face into a brick wall a million goddamn times." He'd wanted to do that to Bartleby enough but he'd refrained. See, he was good. "Now, I can probably pinpoint a few of you loners, the ones that don't think they need any fucking one, and I'm just going to laugh at your asses now. You're wrong. Even if you don't want to work with someone, you're going to have to at some point. Aww, cry more. It's better to get it done efficiently then to drag your feet and have to spend more time around that person."

And sometimes you just got attached and stayed with that person. Sometimes. Bartleby had good stories.

"So, of course, let's do introductions. Name, age, how well you think you work with someone else," he recited. "And something random that you want me to know. Could be anything. I don't fucking care."

Once the introductions had been completed, Loki started talking again. "Okay, so loner kids in this class, get the fuck over yourselves even if it's just for this class. You're going to work with each other even it's just for my amusement. But, really, you're going to learn. If you don't want to learn, then I'm going to make you dance for my amusement."

He wasn't kidding.

"In today's society, you almost always have to have some kind of help. Things today just aren't made for one person to do it alone. Sure, you probably can but you're sure as shit gonna finish far behind those who had help. You're probably going to get your ass kicked a few times and you're going to cry. And just imagine, if you had help, you'd have a shoulder to wipe your snotty nose on. But, working with another person is not always easy. It's a mesh of personalities that sometimes ignite and you want nothing more than to push that other person into the middle of fucking traffic and watch nature take its course. We're here to try and teach you how to not do that. You can think that, hell, I think that a fucking lot, but you can't do it. It kind of ruins things all around."

And it was a mess.

"Activity for today, find a partner. Don't be fucking shy, don't give some kid sex eyes from across the room in the hopes that they come your way. Just find a fucking partner and come pick up one of these fucking puzzles up there. They're easy. I did them all last night. You work with your partner to put them together except you cannot talk to each other. Gestures, signals, eyefucking, whatever. No talking. Put the puzzles together and I'll give you a nice round of applause."
No, he wouldn't.

"If there's anyone without a partner or anyone who wants a real challenge, they can work with me. Just see how far communication goes when you can't run your mouths. No shoving puzzle pieces in anyone's eye."

That was his job.

"Oh, before I set you loose, I guess I'm gonna need a TA or two. So, if you're interested. Come see me. We'll see what we can do."

With that, he waved a hand and gestured for them to get to work.

Griff was ready to puzzle this thing out, sadly he had no partner as of yet.

Effy silently sat down opposite him, offering a smirk and an ironic wave of greeting.

If there was one thing she could do, it was do something quietly. Two years of silent practice.

Waving back with a little smile, Griff figured he could do the silence thing pretty well. He should have tried that at the picnic when confronted with breasts.

He pushed some puzzle pieces her way and crossed his eyes.

Effy arched her eyebrows at him, and started idly separating out edge pieces.

She'd done enough of these fucking things to know that you always started from the edges. Her father's misguided attempts at family bonding usually involved a boardgame, or a puzzle, or something similar.

While she was completely correct about the edge thing, Griff was more interested in creating the picture, going automatically to sort for the colors that would form something.

He may have messed up her separation endeavors accidentally.

He wasn't doing very well at this 'working cohesively' thing already.

Effy watched that a moment, before reaching to flick his fingers away from her damned edge pieces.

Pulling his hand away quickly at the flicking with a frown, he stopped to try and figure out what she was doing because she certainly wasn't appreciating what he was doing.

Effy indicated a box-shape on the table, and held up an edge piece illustratively.

Duh, you started edgewards and worked in.

Griff waved a hand and made a face like she was doing it the easy way rather than the fun way. Drawing a square with his hand, he pointed at her. Scribbling his hand to fill in the middle, he then indicated himself.

Effy rolled her eyes, nodded and started stealing her fucking edge pieces back.

Ain't she just the best at cohesive working? Totally.

Griff covered his mouth to cough out a laugh before getting to work on his part of the puzzle.

Incorporating the two parts might prove a challenge once they were done.

As far as Effy was concerned, he could be the one to take his apart to fit it into hers. Her way was better anyway.

As previously mentioned, just great at getting along with others.
