Basketball- 6th Period- Class #1

Lily greeted her class in the gym today, because as nice as it would be to be outdoors in the fresh air, she hadn't had time to make new basketball hoops and these were already made.

"Hi, everyone!" she said. "I recognize some familiar faces here and some... really really not familiar ones. I'm Ms. Aldrin, and I'll be your workshop leader for Basketball. We've got a small group, but that's good. Small groups encourage one-on-one learning and you'll probably find yourself getting better and building more esteem that way. So today I want you all to try to get the balls in the hoops! It's okay if you don't, just try your best and have fun! If you need me, I'll be right here."

And then she took a seat on the bleachers and picked up her guitar.

No, seriously.

Okay, so, this was the weirdest gym class he had ever had by far but he'd roll with it. He was in no way as good at basketball than he was football but he was able to make it into the hoop pretty regularly.

Hannibal King

"Think she takes requests?" Hannibal asked because seriously. He dribbled his own ball in place. "I'd love to see her try some AC/DC."

Hannibal grabbed a ball and made to do a few layups. If this is what the class was going to be, he was certain he'd chosen wisely.

Adora picked up a basketball and stared at it for a moment before attempting a two handed dribble and accidentally kicking the ball far, far away. "Oh dear."

Riggins let out a huff that might've been a small laugh or a noise of frustration that someone was talking to him.

"You could try," Riggins said. "Personally I don't much care what she plays as long as it keeps her from talkin' about building self esteem and stuff."

"That comes later during the sharing circle," Hannibal said. "During summer camp, every evening, everyone sits around the main campfire and shares something. And then there's singing."

What a liar.

"Yeah, I think I'll be skipping out on that part," Riggins said even though he doubted that was true. He went for a shot and smirked to himself when he made it.

"Nice shot, new kid," Hannibal said, nodding. "Basketball player?"

"Football," Riggins said, moving to get his ball at a lazy pace. He figured the teacher was going to yell at him for lack of hustle any time soon. "And I also go by Tim or Riggins. Your pick."

Yeah, that new kid thing wasn't going to fly.

"Tim, right," he said easily, nodding apologetically. "Hannibal King. I used to play some football myself. Back in the days of yore. Where're you coming from? You don't look like you're from another planet but looks can be deceiving here."

"Texas." Which was a part of the planet and the country no matter what some people liked to believe. "Completely normal Texas."

"Texa--" Wait a minute. "I think you know my roommate. Unless there's someone else from Texas around here."

Well, more than his roommate but he'd bring that up later.

"Claire's from Texas," Riggins said. Oh look, he could remember things. "And Ang's lived in Texas. It's a big state."

"She let you call her Ang?" Aww, that was cute. He was so going to call her Angie next time he saw her. "I haven't met Claire but I live with Angela. Well, not during cabins but most of the time."

"I asked her if I could, she said yes," Riggins said, shrugging. He preferred nicknames. "Sounds like I got jipped on the whole roommate thing."

Zack was a spaz.

"I don't doubt that she did," Hannibal said. "Nicest person I've ever met. And yeah, I got lucky with that. One year on and I'm still counting my blessings. She's a good person to have a big sibling though. Knows her stuff."

"Probably gonna need all the wisdom she has to offer," Riggins admitted. "This place is kinda weird."

"Understatement of the century," he agreed with a snort. "Weird doesn't even begin to cover it. But hey, it's a pretty place too."
