Care for Magical Creatures; Friday, Period 2 [ 04/24 ].

"Good morning, students!" Minsc greeted his class, the level of his joviality higher than usual not because it was the last class, but because after today, he wouldn't have to worry about writing up exams for the kids for a good while. Unfortunately, for that task, the classroom looked a bit like what Minsc would consider a torture chamber: all the desks lined up in neat little rows, awaiting butts to fill them in and to be used for writing.

He considered proposing their destruction once everyone was done, to bring things around full circle, but didn't want to risk being in trouble again.

"Here are you exams! Please complete them and leave them on my desk when you are finished, along with your reports! And then, get out of here! Enjoy your day! Enjoy your week! Enjoy whatever! Maybe I will see some of you in my workshop this summer; maybe not. Either way, Boo and me wish you well, so, get to it!"

For the last time!

Now's the time to get out questions or chatting with your fellow classmates, and Minsc does not take too kindly to cheaters during his tests.

On the paper are several questions, to be answered as you will (including handwavily):

1. What are three different types of transformations?
2. Please list two different ways to go about a transformation, as well as some benefits and drawbacks of each way.
3. Why would a person want to embark on an animal transformation? If they would, what warnings would you give them?
4. Please list four things you'd look for in any given animal to see if they are actually an animal, or a person turned into an animal.
5. What are some examples of "half-transformed" magical creatures?
6. How can an enemy use animal transformation again you? What can you do to prevent them from doing it?
7. Please discuss possible traits that might be maintained from a human form to a magical transformation one.

Extra Credit: Why is Boo terrible at telling stories?

Hand in your papers, written, summarized, or handwaved as you will.

As they should be there, for the last time this class!

Who will likely tell you in a very loud and gesturing fashion how great of a class you were.

Seriously, great class, guys! Yay!

Also, the correct answer to the extra credit? Because he's only got one tail and it's short! Har har har.

Arthur Pendragon

Arthur was more than a little bit happy that this was over with. Except for the part where he wasn't - at least preparing for class had given him something to do.

Still, he was doing his best to look idle about the whole thing.

Really, Minsc should be used to Arthur's papers by now. It was elaborate, the handwriting was pitch-perfect, and absolutely no boots were mentioned in the entire thing.

Although it was meant to show some good old fashioned warning for the dangers of such magics, if you read behind the lines, the idea that if you must turn into something, turn into something with teeth swam underneath the surface.

"Sir Arthur," Minsc gave the boy a nod. "I should like to thank you for taking upon your shoulders the task of TA. You did a good job."

"Sir Minsc," Arthur returned, turning fully more to face him. "It's been an honour serving with you." And why look at that, he didn't even sound sarcastic.

Met with that, Minsc grinned a little, clapping a hand on the boy's shoulder. "And the both of us survived in tact as well. Well done. I imagine you're quite relieved to find it over, Sir Arthur?"

Aww. Poor Boo.

It was a very heavy hand. A few inches of Arthur's muscle mass nearly spasmed in sympathy with the beating said hand had delivered to them a few weeks previous. "The thought has crossed my mind once or twice," he admitted, dryly. "What'll you be doing next, then, Sir Minsc?"

Independent onlookers would no doubt lose their minds over the Sir-usage at this rate.

Leto Atreides

Leto wrote fairly short and precise replies, based on the lectures. The extra credit, made him frown, and he resisted the urge to write 'because he is a hamster', and instead wrote:

Because he no doubt has matters of graver importance to deal with.

Leto handed in a quite long essay on his transformation into a lion. He had avoided making it too personal, and it included a few long, philosophical discussions on the impact on personality of the transformed.

"Something that might interest you far more, Sir Arthur," said Minsc, "so it'd honour"--you used words like that with royalty, after all--"me greatly if you looked into it. A workshop! On what I do best!"

No, not pulverizing things or hacking them apart with a sword, although that was part of it.

"Rangering!"

Arthur was very appreciative of Sir Minsc's choice in words, yes, as the word honour did set something alight in him. Although that may have been more slavish dedication to chivalry than anything royal. "You're a ranger?" he inquired.

Minsc nodded. "Ever since I could lift a sword in one hand and a bow in the other," he said, alluding to a time that was actually pretty damn early in Minsc's life. "That's where my interest in animals comes from. One does not spend so much time studying and tracking and fighting them without growing appreciative."

"Of course not," said Arthur, who made a polite show of not looking at Boo in the slightest. "After all, what is a hunter without his game?" If Arthur could just relate Minsc's general ranger-ness to his love of hunting and killing things, they could actually have a conversation.

Still, philosophy really wasn't his strong suit. "What kinds of game do your lands hold?"
