Blank Page Art Club, Art Room After Classes, Monday, 4/20

Claire almost forgot there was a club meeting today, but she remembered just in time, midway through an IMing bitch session with Parker. She logged off fast and went to the art classroom. On a whim, she grabbed out pencils, tempera paints, and an enormous roll of butcher paper.

"Art Crawl was awesome," she announced, once people started joining her. "We raised a little money, people had fun, nothing went wrong. Which was amazing. And this club was awesome. And, uh, this is our last meeting, unless somebody really wants to come down here and set up during our free week."

"I'm working on a mural" -- she nodded to the roll of paper -- "of, I dunno, stuff that happened this year. You guys can help with it or do your own thing."

After which she went back down to the paper and started sketching a harpie perched in a tree. The terrifying stuff had to be on there, after all.

Peyton shook her head. "Too much on my mind right now. And that's something I never thought I'd say. Usually sketching helps, but..."

"Not something you can just sketch out." Angela could sort of understand that.

"Something you could talk out? Because you know I'm always there for that."

Peyton let out a breath. "I decided to go see my birth mother."

"You did?" That was enough to have Angela putting down her pencil to put more attention on Peyton. "What brought that on?"

"I don't know," Peyton said, shrugging. "The kids showing up, I guess. And a talk with Chuck Bass of all things."

The kids she could get, but... "I thought you hated him?" she said after a moment. It seemed odd that he'd be one of the reasons behind the choice.

"Yeah, well, guess even someone you hate can have a good point every now and again," Peyton said. "And I don't actually hate him. I just... don't like him very much. And it kinda creeps me out that he slept with Dean."

"It creeps me out that there's a universe they had a kid," Angela said. No, really, the biology of that? Creepy.

"So you're really going?" she said. "When?"

She shook her head. "I don't know. Soon as I can make myself, I guess. Dean says he'll come with me."

Angela nodded, quirking a little smile. "Well, you know I'm here if you need any extra support, sweetie."

"I can use all the support I can get," Peyton admitted. "I'm scared to death."

"Aw, honey." Angela reached to put a supportive arm around her. "I'm sure it'll be worth doing in the long run."

"And I told her to get the hell out," Peyton said quietly. "Maybe everyone leaves because I push them away."

"At the time, I know you had your reasons," Angela said. "If she doesn't realise that, then that is her problem, not yours."

"And you do not push everyone away." The very fact she had two people willing to support her in this proved that.

"I guess," Peyton said quietly. "I came up with an idea - a reason - for going to see her. I thought maybe she could help me produce a record with my friend Haley's song. We could maybe make it a benefit CD for breast cancer, you know?"

"Well, she gave me up for drugs once before," Peyton pointed out.

Angela frowned, squeezing the arm around her a little tighter. "She does that again, I'll... well, I won't say I'd kick her ass because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't, but I can pull some mean faces and tell her off."

Peyton smiled over at her. "Thanks, Angela. Dean's pretty convinced that she'll be glad to see me just 'cause I'm family, but... not all families are as close as his is."

"Maybe they aren't," she allowed. "But that isn't to say that blood doesn't mean something in these situations. Maybe more than you'd think."

"I hope so," Peyton said. "I don't even know if she lied or if she really is in remission. I just hope I have the chance to maybe get to know her a little before I lose her too."
