Business 101, Monday [4-13] First Period

Jean-Paul wasn't behind his desk today. He stood beside it, rather. Behind his desk, sitting on a couple of phone books, was a little girl with brown hair and very blue eyes. Jean-Paul had raided the art supplies, and Joanne was very intent on some project involving construction paper and glitter.

Joanne liked glitter.

"This is Joanne," he informed the class. "She is my daughter. I will entertain no questions about her, and if you make her cry you will fail this class, and also life. There is paper and crayons for any children you may have brought with you." They could not have Joanne's glitter. "Your assignment for today is to lay out how your business deals with children. In the workplace, as customers, whatever. Bon chance."

Joan had a dull headache.

But she did her best to listen to the lecture.

Jack pondered this. "Put a changing station in the back of the truck? Wait, no, I don't want to be smelling that for the next five hundred miles. Yech."

Joanne was using a less-than-ideal glitter to glue ratio, which meant glitter was getting all over EVERYTHING.

That was all right. She kind of liked it that way. Plus, she got to help Papa teach!

Gabby looooooved glitter.

"Can I color with you?" she asked, her wings nearly knocking over an adjacent chair as she sat down.

"Oui," said Joanne. Then she looked up at the other little girl and gasped. "You have wings! Can you fly? My papa can fly."

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can fly! My daddy is an angel. Is your daddy an angel too?"

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Non. My papa is Quebecois." Joanne considered. "And a mutant." That probably had more to do with the whole 'flying' thing. After all, Joanne was Quebecois, too, and she couldn't fly.

Gabby didn't know what either of those words meant. "Whassa mutant?"

"It means he has superpowers 'cause he has different DNA," Joanne explained. "DNA's the stuff that makes people." She studied Gabrielle for a moment, then asked, "Did you say your papa is Angel?" She should know all this already if he was, sheesh.

"Daddy's name is Loki," Gabby said. "He's an angel. Mommy's human though, so I'm only half angel. But I gots wings! Does your daddy have wings?"

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nooooooo," Joanne said. "Papa doesn't need wings. Or he's too fast for them. I forget which." Joanne wrinkled up her nose. "Loki is a bad guy."

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"My daddy's not a bad guy!" Gabby protested.

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is so!" Joanne insisted. "One time he made Papa think he was a fairy. Papa's not a fairy! And and and sometimes, he fights Thor." Joanne liked Thor. He talked funny.

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"My daddy doesn't even know no one named Thor," Gabby insisted.

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"...oh. Maybe he's a different Loki?"

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Gabby shrugged. "Guess so. Cause my daddy's not a bad guy. Even though he says bad words a lot."

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Papa says sometimes bad words are useful. But I shouldn't use 'em 'til I'm big. Even in French."

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mommy says that Daddy's a bad 'fluence and should clean up his lang'age," Gabby said.

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tante Jeanne-Marie says that about Papa." She paused, then added, "Tante 'Rora only laughs.

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Daddy laughs when Mommy says that," Gabby said. "But I try to help and 'mind him when he says bad words."

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Joanne pretty much thought her papa was the best person in the whole world, but, "Sometimes I have to tell Papa not to make people cry. He's good at that."

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Gabby nodded. "Yeah, my daddy is mean sometimes too and I gotsa remind him that he's an angel and he's 'posed to be good."

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] onlyaweestar.livejournal.com 2009-04-13 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Papa doesn' have that problem." Joanne wordlessly offered Gabrielle a tube of glitter glue.

Re: Child Holding Area

[identity profile] weetinymiracles.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks!" Gabby said, smearing the glitter glue all over her picture.
