Flight Club [Flight Shed]

Gavin was hiding under a hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap today. Yeah, he knew it didn't do much to hide who he was but it was something. And it made it even less likely that he'd look John in the face after...last night.

Kriffing hell, he hated gremlins. He hated this place. And why the kriff had he been the girl?

"Welcome back. There's snacks." Gavin was just bundles of joy today. "Uh, just...practice with your vehicle of choice in the sim and we'll get back on track next week."

When he wasn't wanting to run and disappear into the deepest hole the island offered.

"Pay particular attention to landings. That'll come in handy next week."

With that, Gavin pulled open the sim's door and started wishing for lightning to strike him down.

Tahiri sighed. "I just got hit over the head. It wasn't a big deal." Kind of embarrassing though.

"Spare parts?" she asked, guessing at the weapon. Since she was probably never going to get hit with that many body parts again herself, at least not until she someday got concussed by a dead guy.

"Leg. And that was after I got tripped up by a ribcage." Yeah, that part still grossed her out, but really, as far as embarrassing ways to lose consciousness went this one might not be the worst one she'd ever add to her list. "Look, about going off on you --"

Tahiri paused there, because she wasn't exactly sorry she had.

Jaina both wanted to hear what she had to say, and really didn't. Not that it would stop her from asking. "What about it?"

"I could have picked a better time." Tahiri, who wasn't exactly looking at Jaina right now, had a great track record of that lately. "I'd been meaning to, after I heard what happened to John. Not go off on you, I mean. Just talk to you, but stuff just kept happening."

Amazing how she could talk to Ben about it calmly after the fact, but the thought of being checked up on while it was happening put her guard back up. "You didn't need to anyway, it got fixed."

Which of course she'd totally known was going to happen and completely believed it would work. Right.

"Yeah." Tahiri glanced John's way briefly. "You got him back, so it's fine now, right?"

She didn't actually say "sorry for caring," but it might've been implied.

"It is," she said, but she wasn't trying to be bitchy about it for once. She was still genuinely surprised she was okay, and if she thought about it at all, she'd feel really badly that it didn't work that way for everyone.

"Good," Tahiri replied, still a bit awkwardly. "You didn't need to go through anything like that again."

She was a little jealous it didn't work that way for everyone, yes, but not quite as much as you might think.

"Yeah," she said, for lack of anything else to say. Right now the last week suddenly felt just that much more like it had actually happened, which set Jaina on edge a little more than she'd like. "But it's over, nothing to do about it now."

You'd think she could say that happier.

Tahiri gave her a curious look. "Usually people sound a little happier when they say things like that," she observed.

"It's not a great subject," she said simply. She'd been fine before, but it was easier to go lalalala everything's fine now without thinking of what it had actually been like.

"Is it ever?" Tahiri countered.

"Not really," she admitted. "Should it be?"

"I guess not," Tahiri said. She still looked a little dubious, because having Jaina actually approach her for a conversation was kind of . . . not a usual thing. Also, the concern was a little weird, but not in a bad way. "I'm okay, though." No, she wasn't. "No concussion or anything. Ben just kind of freaked."

"Why would Ben freak?" she asked. Maybe the rib cage had really grossed him out.

Um.

"I was a little unconscious at the time," Tahiri pointed out. Backpedaling, woo!

"Then I don't think I'd call it freaking out," she pointed out.

Tahiri was so not about to go into the reasons why it had been. She kind of liked living. "Well . . . thanks for checking, I guess," she offered with a half smile.
