Journalism Class - Wednesday October 12

This morning, Spider is leaning back with his feet on his desk, watching the cat chase madly back and forth across the floor and dart beneath the desks. The aroma of coffee fills the room and the end of the classroom set aside for the newspaper staff now has a velvet rope marking it off and large trays of various baked goods.

There is a large cappucino machine at one end of the counter, looking very sparkly and new.

Waiting until most of the class had straggled in, he announced, "Next week's homework assignment is going to be labor intensive and possibly team oriented - it is also going to be graphics intensive, so you might want to start making friends with our photojournalism students." Spider grinned maliciously. "If I were them, I'd start considering bribes at this point, but that's just me."

Pausing to light a cigarette, he continued, "We've been talking a lot about the use of words to influence your audience and how the truth can be distorted or hidden... so today I want to ask you to convince me of something in one hundred words or less. You can talk to me about the joys of coffee worship," with a dry look at the cappucino machine, "or how the one true way involves a diet of nothing but bananas. I want you to take a statement of less than a hundred words and pack it with as much passion and conviction as you can. Convince me that you're sincere, that you know what you're talking about and that I need to at least get off my lazy ass and pursue more information."

There is muted growling and a damp 'squishing' noise from beneath his desk, but Spider ignored it. "Photojournalism students, if there are any present today, you get a photograph and a single sentence to capture my complete emotional attention. Tear-jerker, gut-wrencher, righteous wrath... any emotional reaction will do."

John contemplates quickly before deciding on the topic he was going to discuss.

The best thing in life is ice cream. Doesn’t matter what kind or what brand, there is nothing better then that sweet first taste, that slow melting on your tongue, and the flavorful state it leaves your mouth in. There is nothing better then ice cream for dinner, eating right from the carton. Ice cream is perfect for a hot, muggy summer day and perfect for a cold winter’s day spent in front of the fire. With ice cream, you’ll never experience the same flavor more then once and you’ll never get candy stuck in your teeth again.
