Library, Sunday

It was Sunday which meant Lee was behind the desk today, scribbling ideas down for his newspaper article. He had some good ideas but the creativity just wasn't flowing right now. He figured he could, if anything, draw a giant doodle and turn it in but he kind of wanted to do better than that.

Maybe he'd write an article on doodling in class. It could be an epidemic.

So, okay. Lee had a girlfriend. So what. She still needed to do research on medieval society, it seemed like. And he was easier to talk to than certain other people would be right now.

And always pretty to look at!

"Hey, Lee. Which way to the medieval history?"

"Ummm," Dinah smiled back while she thought, then finally said, "Day-to-day life? My friend Merlin's from back then. He was telling me stuff about how they farmed and managed things that I didn't expect. And anything on legal stuff?" Maybe if she could figure out which rule she'd broken from Arthur's point of view, she'd know how to handle him.

"Could you show me? I won't take too long," Dinah promised, but sending the stacks a rather wary look. "Once I have the right place. None of it's in that Special Collections I've heard about, right?"

There were things on the Radio that she just didn't know whether to take seriously or not about that.

"You do? Hunh." Dinah bounced along after him, mood lightening at the thought of getting answers. Hesitantly, she asked, "Any books you'd recommend on history besides these? You said you were reading up on it, at the pool party." And she *really* wanted to ask about the girlfriend he hadn't mentioned, but there didn't seem any way to ask about that at all.

"Wars," Dinah decided, following through the longer and longer stacks. "Is it just me, or has half our school been in a war? Either on Earth, or out in space?" After a minute, she couldn't help asking, "Who's your favorite poet?"

"Yeah, definitely a lot of fighters here, even if there's no wars where they're from," Dinah said, thinking Tony, in his way, and Angry, who was fighting who knew what. "Poe, hunh? Goth stuff? Your girlfriend's into that? Somebody told me she was already at college..." Dinah was dying for details.

Caught off-balance, Dinah laughed, feeling herself blush a little. Hoped it wasn't too obvious. "Um. Francine Peters, do you know her? Dark hair, junior, lives up on Fifth?" She looked very studiously at the books they were passing by. "I might have mentioned meeting you, on Tuesday. To her."

And gotten so disappointed.

Okay, now? Officially depressed. And impressed. "Wow. Smart then, hunh? Literature and science." Couldn't just be a science geek, could she. Probably as smart as Barbara. "Which school in Georgia?"

Super-genius. Well. Okay, she'd known there was a girlfriend, at least it was someone Lee really liked, that he bragged on. That was good. "Is she going to go into research?" Dinah asked, checking their location in the library. "And no, you're way not dumb." Oh. Intelligent way to put it, Lance. "I mean, she must be impressive, if you think she's smart."

"Yeah? In what way?" Masochism, curiosity, or just genuine interest, Dinah wasn't sure which. Maybe all three? "And definitely. Always take flowers and cookies if you're going to mess up someone's life."

Hunh. Maybe she should tell Leto that.

"Awwwww!" Jealousy got left behind by latent rampant romanticism. "That is so sweet." Dinah followed him down the aisle, feeling both worse and better, asking about this. This kind of relationship she understood, even if it wasn't hers. "How long have you two been together?"

Dinah took down Daily Life in Medieval Times (http://www.amazon.com/Daily-Life-Medieval-Times-Detailed/dp/1579120695, just for), just to start, with a sense of hopefulness, and grinned at him. "That's so awesome. I can't help being jealous." Not of him, exactly. Okay, of him too, because Lee rocked. But. "And you're still together even though she graduated and all? And you're from another planet?"

"You said that, about the military versus the law career..." He hadn't mentioned there was someone he was staying for too, but, how would you bring that up? "I guess Georgia has law schools, doesn't it? You'd be a lot closer that way." Dinah frowned a little, pulling down a book on feudal law. "Can you do that? I mean. Get paperwork to just stay?"

Dinah nodded reluctantly. And again, reminded of Leto. "That would be one heckuva commute. You've still got a month or so, right? Have you been accepted anywhere already?" She grinned at him, then blinked, finding a book on Camelot on the shelf. "Hunh." To check out, or not to check out?

Dinah nodded. "A lot to think about." She had her main goal and location decided already, but the details and career were something else. She'd be putting it off for a while too. She looked at the books in her arms, then impulsively said, "Add in a book of Poe, and I think I'm set."

"Works. You've got me curious about what Adah likes now." At the last second, she put the book about Camelot on top of the pile so far, not even looking to see if it was a history or legends or about one of those movies or what. "The only poetry I know much of is Shakespeare, for the play this term."

"Looks good," Dinah agreed, sighing just a little. Informative library visit, in more than one way. "Thanks for all your help with this. I'm more Action Girl than Book Girl."
