Food Appreciation [Class Eleven, Period #3]

There was pizza today. Lots and lots of pizza. Pizza with all kinds of crusts and every kind of topping you can imagine. A ton of pizza. Enough pizza for everyone in the class and then some.

Marshall was standing in front of the class with a plate that was loaded with several different kinds of pizza. Yes, he was planning to eat it all.

"Pizza!" Marshall said, holding up a slice. "It's delicious, it has a lot of variety and it's going to be your main staple when you guys get to college. Why? Because it's cheap and you don't have to get off your ass in order to get it. Pizza, as you probably already know, is from Italy and..."

Marshall trailed off and shook his head.

"...look, like you guys care about the history of pizza. I know you just want to eat," he said, chuckling. "So, eat! This is Food Appreciation, appreciate this food."

Marshall certainly was going to.

"Ugh," Jen said eloquently, "I probably am. And it'll probably happen to you, and I'm really sorry."

She always did kind of fail at the morale thing.

"If I get baked into a giant pizza, I'm totally blaming you," Harry said. "And you'll be responsible for getting me out. By eating your way through the pizza, if necessary."

"Can't I just vaporize it or something?" Jen asked, horrified at the thought.

"Nope." Harry grinned. "That wouldn't be fitting punishment for getting me into it in the first place, now would it?"

"If you ended up in a giant pizza it wouldn't be my --"

Jen snapped her mouth shut and just groaned.

Harry's grin had now changed into a smirk.

"See, if you'd just eaten your pizza like a normal teenager this conversation never would have happened and you wouldn't have doomed me to a sauce-y fate."

"It could be a white pizza," Jen said a little desperately. "There's no sauce on those."

"Okay, so I'll just be completely cheesy and covered in garlic then," Harry said. "I'll still blame you and I'll have to swear off pizza for days. Maybe even weeks! A tragedy."

"Yeah, but . . ." Jen flailed a little, mentally. "You'd be safe from vampires?"

"Ok, that's one point in your favor," Harry said. "But I'll also be so garlicky I'll be safe from anyone with a nose and that will not help with the effort to not be a hermit, will it?"

". . . so we'll time it so you get trapped in a giant white pizza just before the island gets invaded by vampires, and then everyone will love you because you'll be a safe zone," Jen suggested.

"I like the way you think," Harry said. "But you'll still be responsible for rescuing me when the inevitable giant pizza happens."

Nevermind that Harry was perfectly capable of getting himself out of pizza. This way was more fun.

Jen glared at him, not even remotely threatening. "Oh, eat your pizza."

Harry just grinned and took a huge bite of the slice of pepperoni he was holding.

"I will! Just not the giant pizza. That one's all for you."
