Young Entrepreneurs; Monday, Period 6 [ 03/09].

Turtle very decidedly did not want to move around today any more than was necessary, even in the occasional wince of pain was the only indication that anything was wrong. So, once she got all the food set out and sat down, that was that. No more moving, except to pass out a few packets of information.

"Okay," she started, not even bothering to move for the gavel. "What I've done for these packets is gathered some information about various different kind of cases and boxes, because, no matter how much you talk about putting things into a kit, it's all pretty moot if you don't have anything to put it in. Now, these aren't an end-all, be-all. There might be a better, more cost-effective route to go than wholesaling cases like these. But these are options that an entrepreneur has and must consider, so look them over, think about them, think about other options if you can, and come back next week with some idea and what you might do for this particular product."

"What else are we going to put our Fandom emergency kits in?" Turtle asked. "Brown paper bags?"

"I think we need the content in order to choose the case," Leto replied.

He really didn't see what was wrong with brown paper bags.

"Well," Turtle sighed a little, "we're kind of farting around about what to put in them. I figured, this way, we can at least narrow in on what the outside will be, and then base off of what will fit, since we haven't narrowed in on much else."

She was a really sore and kind of cranky today. So shoot her.

Leto could see that it might not be a good day to question her judgement. He leaned forward and placed a hand on her shoulder. "I didn't mean to oppose your suggestion, but you raised this subject for discussion, and so I gave you my opinion."

The hand on the shoulder got the same reaction it usually did, now particularly notable as it mimicked his response to the cases. She looked at it, then looked at him, arching an eyebrow.

"Does your opinion include suggestions about what to put in them, Leto?" she asked. "So far, what I can remember we've come up with so far is first aid supplies and something to do with pie."

He should have dropped the hand, but didn't and instead let out a sigh. Sometimes Turtle could be quite... he didn't know exactly what. "I still believe we need an intellectual concept before we translate it into physical goods. A philosophy of some kind that links the objects to a course of action, which need to be predicted."

"Yes, Leto," Turtle agreed, looking him straight on so he'd get that she got it and he could move his hand any time now, especially since her shoulder still kind of hurt from yesterday. "I agree. The intellectual concept is a preparation kit for Fandom disasters. We have that; it's just the details that need work. And while it's all well and good to talk about how we need details, it would be nice to hammer out a few of them first. I figured an easy one is to get an idea on what sort of packaging might be available, and the packets I've distributed are not only possible for things we might use, but looking through them and understanding things like pricing for this kind of stuff is the sort of exercize that's helpful to an entrepreneur. I'm not just making you guys look at cases because it's fun, but because these are the sorts of details it never hurts for an entrepreneur to have, whether or not they end up going with the final product."

Slowly he let his hand fall. "Yes, that was not what I meant," he replied impatiently. "What I suggested was a strategy defining action rather than physical goods, and an reference framework for interpreting disasters. As we have all agreed that these events are unpredictable by nature, we will have to narrow down generic responses to unforeseen dangers. I suspect people react differently; then we have the option of making kits for different people, although I would advise against it. People often do not know themselves that well. That means the kit will have to include the tools for all the strategies."

Leto didn't see why cases were fun.

That had mostly been sarcasm.

"You're right there, too, Leto," said Turtle. "This is all stuff we've been over, though. We're at a point where, instead of talking about how we need to figure out some stuff like that, we need to start coming up with ideas. So if you have them, great, let's hear them, because the rest of us are coming up a little short. Until then, I don't think it would hurt to focus on at least one other solid part of the process. Nothing will be set in stone; we're just discussing. And it's all very well and good to talk about what we need to do still, but a good entrepreneur doesn't just talk, he does. So unless you've got some specific suggestions on what to put in them, Leto, you're just kind of rustling papers around, you know?"

"I just don't see how we can choose a case without knowing the content," Leto replied, irritation slipping into his voice. "I realise we need to limit our options, but I don't think doing that by setting a size limit because of a case is the right way to go."

"And I'm not asking to settle on one yet, either," said Turtle, sucking in a breath to keep from sighing. "All I'm doing is asking you to look at the options and think about them."

"I have," Leto snapped. "This is my conclusion."

Turtle let out a breath and rubbed her forehead a little. "Okay," she said. "If you want to base a conclusion in all of five minutes of thought, that's fine. I appreciate your input, Leto, and, for next week, hopefully I can put something together more attuned to the direction you'd like this to go."

"It is hardly a life or death decision, and even those need to be made in shorter time than that often enough." Not that he did have a lot of influence on the decisions made by the regent, but that didn't stop him from having an opinion.

Oh, God, just shoot her now. He certainly seemed to be making a case of it (no pun intended. At all) as if it practically was, though.

"Well, when you do have the time, you might as well take it."

"There is not enough data," Leto persisted. "The choice of cases depends on the content. With no content we can't choose the case." This was fairly obvious to him.

"But we're just getting ideas about what kind of cases are available to us, Leto," Turtle said with a sigh. "Like I just said. Like I said at the start of the meeting. These are just ideas."

This discussion was clearly going nowhere. Leto leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms, and gave a light shrug in reply.
