"Morning, everyone," Amaya nodded to the class, offering a small smile. "Hope neither of you were effected too bad by this year's Halloween shenanigans, and that you're fully back to normal and ready to go with more exciting shop class lessons! So far, we've been working a lot with the same two materials: metal and wood. But we're actually going to switch that up today . It's gonna be fun and it's going to be messy, too, so I hope you don't have any big plans after this! Personally, I'm not much of a potter, but if we've got the potter's wheels available to us, why not put 'em to good use?"

"Any questions? Don't worry about making mistakes. With clay, it's hard to really see how it goes by just watching, so try to figure out what you do wrong and how to correct it, or ask for help if you need any. Now go get some clay! And probably some smocks, especially if you like your clothes. Honestly, if this doesn't get a little messy, you're probably doing it wrong!"

Fear in Literature, Tuesday 4th period

This week, Jon was looking very put together: he had a decent (and more modern) haircut and neatly ironed (and less stuffy) clothing. It was offset just a bit by the bags under his eyes, but he'd done what he could.

The board read: The Hunt: The fear of being chased or hunted; the primal fear of being prey.

"Welcome back, everybody," Jon said. "I hope you've all had time to recover from this weekend's...unpleasantness. This week's reading treats this particular fear very literally. Man is prey, is hunted, and is made to feel explicitly like the other animals he hunts.

"At the start of the story, Rainsford is dismissive of his companion's assertion that the hunt isn't fun for the animals, that they experience fear and pain. By the end of the story, do you think he's learned any differently? He also states he's not a murderer; since General Zaroff no longer intended to kill him, do you think his killing Zaroff makes him one? If so, is he justified in it?"



At the end of class, he wrote the next week's assignment on the board: Robert Silverberg, "To See the Invisible Man"

Fixin Stuff- Tuesday- 2nd period

"So you've gone and put a hole in the wall," Nick announced, gesturing to a five-inch hole in the Danger Shop apartment's living room wall. "Maybe your friend hit it, maybe you fell into it, maybe there was an incident with a rogue doorknob. But now you've got to fix it.

"They sell patches for this sort of thing," Nick said, holding one up. "You're going to cut it to be just a little bigger, and then stick it on the wall over the hole. Then you put on joint compound, let it dry for 24 hours but this room is weird as hell so we can move on right away, and then we can paint it to match. Easy! Now you try."

He hadn't really demonstrated anything but okay.

Anakin had an excess of non-monster chocolate left over from the weekend, which was why the students would find either a fun-sized bar of fair trade/free trade chocolate (because Ethics class and also because his wife was a connoisseur of decent candy) a full-sized bar, or nothing at all, hidden in their desks.

"Today we talk about jealousy, feelings of entitlement, and resentment," Anakin said, biting into his candy. "Now before you came to class, all of you were equal in the amount of chocolate you didn't have before you. And now some of you are still in the same chocolate-less having moment, while others have more. No one did anything to earn this chocolate, it's just the luck of where you sat down. Now you could move around, attempting to change your fate. You could ask for your classmates to share, though they are under no obligation to do so. Or you could sit there and be angry at me for not being equitable, though, again, I'm under no obligation to do so."

He smiled. "Let's discuss. Why do we expect fairness when it so seldom happens?"
