Sam Eagle Presents: A Salute To... [Tuesday, 6/22, 4th Period]

The flag behind Sam had truly reached comical proportions this week. It was simply enormous.

As always, at precisely the correct time, Sam cleared his throat and began speaking. “Greetings, students! Today I have a very special treat for all of you!”
Don’t worry, it wasn’t a single slice of American cheese per person again. This was better! (No, really)

“As I was preparing for our final class I needed to research! I even turned to the internet. And there I found something wonderful. Did you know there is a superhero known as Captain America? I did not! But I have been enlightened!” It shouldn’t be possible for a large Muppet eagle with a permanent scowl to look this much like a heart eyes emoji and yet here we are.

“I used The Google,” yes, Sam talked like that sometimes, “to search for ‘wholesome American things’ and discovered that not only does Captain America exist but he is in fact extremely wholesome! And that is why today I, Sam Eagle, proudly and patriotically present A Salute To All Superheroes but Mostly Captain America!”

“Other superheroes are, of course, heroic. As they should be! It is their job! Captain America is, naturally, the most American of heroes. The most patriotic! The most wholesome! The greatest of all!”

No, Sam was not going to discuss any other heroes. Not even the other ones who lived on this island. Sorry, one third of the population.

“And class! For your special treat for this final class I have arranged for you to view examples of Captain America’s heroism and patriotism!”

Sure that’s what these are, Sam. Sure.

“Please enjoy these fine public service announcements from a fine superhero.”

[Let it be known that [personal profile] heroic_jawline encouraged this nonsense.]

Culinary Crimes; Tuesday, Second Period [06/22].

Thanks to a nice two-day intensive recovery period, Summer was pretty much recovered and back to normal by the time her class on Tuesday rolled around, which was good, because, thanks to a certain present and having been down for the count on Father's Day, she already had a busy rest-of-the-week ahead of her.

But first! Traumatizing people with food! Or at least making them scratch their heads a little, because she felt she was going a little light on them for their final class, but, as stated many times previously, her guage on this sort of thing had broken beyond repair a loooong time ago.

"Welcome back, you guys," she started, "and welcome the final week in which you're subjected to the terrible things people can do to food, unless you plan on taking my course next session, too. In a way, there's something about today's class that will tie into the focus of the next one, but that's all I'm saying on the matter. Today, we're going to focus on a specific food, one that's actually very near and dear to my heart, and that food is spaghetti.

"More specifically, we'll be making spaghetti filled peppers and a nice spaghetti pie, finishing off with a lovely spaghetti pudding."

Why, yes, you did hear all of that correctly.

"That's a lot to fit into one class, and I wouldn't wany any of you misisng out on any of it, so let's just get right into it, shall we?"

The Art of Haiku; Tuesday, Third Period [06/22].

"Ahhhh, ducklings ♥," Shunsui, seating as could be expected in the usual circle in the park underneath the tree beside the duck pond, smiled around at his small gathering of students as he poured himself some tea into a small cup. "Today's class is a little bittersweet, as it will be our last meeting on this particular subject, but, hopefully not our last meeting entirely ♥."

He threw them a little wink, had a sip of his tea, and then set his cup aside so that he may find the little boards used to share the poetry with the circle.

"We have one more poet I would like us to explore before we depart, however, and that is on by the name of Fukuda Chiyo-ni, one Japan's most reknowned women haiku-ists. Chiyo-ni was a pioneer in the field in the fact that, previously, unfortunately, the voices of women in haiku had been staunchly ignored or disregarded. Why anyone would want to actively exlude the presence of women in anything is far beyond me, but it was through her dedication and passion and inspiration by the hands of, of course, none other than our dear Matsuo Bashō, she set forth to offer a unique voice and open the door for many other women poets to follow ♥.

"Her best known poem is as follows:"

Here, he cleared his throat, and began:

cut for poems! )

Shunsui paused, a soft smile on his lips, as he let that last one sort of linger in the air a little, much like the butterfly of its focus, and then he smiled at the students.

"So," he said, "let us be like Chiyo-ni-chan today and embrace the simple things, let us praise nature for her part in our lives, and create beautiful words to repesent it ♥. Or, since it's our last meeting, feel free to write and share whatever you'd like. Or just listen to nature making her own poetry, too. Our options are vast ♥."

Magical Theory & Practice, Tuesday, Period 7

"Today we will watch a 'film,'" Yennefer said, and you could almost see the quotation marks around the word, unfamiliar even after quite some time in this world, "about magic and the consequences of magic both misused and misplaced. Screwing over your descendants in your own shortsightedness, forbidden magic, what happens when you don't consider all the angles before using magic to accomplish something, it is all addressed in this film. Enjoy."

The Future History of Science, Tuesday 6th period

"Right." Miguel perched on the desk looking at them. "I'm really disappointed in you all, because I haven't heard any radio reports of hoverbikes or holoart or anything out there, so clearly I've failed you," he said dramatically.

"Not much chance on a final, given that. I give up." He stopped being dramatic and shrugged, then hopped down. "Clearly the only way I'm getting decent tech here is if I bring it in myself."

He tossed each of them a box. Inside was what looked like a game controller, albeit with fewer working parts. "Holographic gaming. I'll show you how to use them, then we play games for class, then you get to keep them." He eyed Beaker. "Try not to make it blow up."
