So You Want to Make a TV Show- 2nd Period- Class #7

"I'm assuming no one had anything embarrassing happen to them this weekend," Dana greeted the class as she stood in front of her desk. "Disappointing. Anyway, it means we get to talk shop sooner. Aren't you all happy.

"Shows are different, depending on where you're working. Some of them have writers who will shove papers in front of you and you sit in front of a camera and read the news all pretty without having any idea what you're talking about," she went on. "The newscasters who actually have a clue and any real credibility write their own stuff. And absolutely no news ever- be it sports, political, entertainment, whatever- has the same news all the time. If you watch CNN, the coverage is different than it was this time even a month ago. That stupid Ryan Seacrest thing on E! has new stuff to talk about every day. You can be watching the local news and they'll interrupt for breaking news that just popped up right now. This is a good thing. You'd get bored watching the same thing all the time anyway.

"In sports, the news goes along with the seasons. With the Super Bowl, we've finished football and are moving on to baseball's spring training, and to basketball. As seasons end and approach, you start hearing about deals and trades that are being made on the teams. Last summer we had the Olympics, which took over everything. But there's always a good mix of stuff going on.

"What you're going to be doing today is writing your own story. I'm not asking for a huge long essay. No, all I want is a quick little headline, something you'd read on the news to summarize what happened. Like 'So and so was traded from this team to this team for the amount of two bazillion dollars', or 'The Pretentiously-Named-Team beat the Non-Pretentiously-Named-Team in basketball today by a score of 312 to 51.' Yes, I just made those up right now. If you want to quote someone, great. We like quotes. Just don't plagiarize the info you've given to work with. Do your best, present them at the end of class. Yes, kids, you're reading aloud today. Had to make up for going easy last week."

"I think I've almost got mine finished, but thank you for the offer, Dinah," Adora smiled. "How are you today?"

"Good! I had a fun weekend. Friends and chocolate, mostly." Which made her remember the 3-Minute Dates, and seeing both Adora and Edward there. "How, um, was yours? I saw you at Caritas Saturday night."

Adora blushed brightly and lowered her gaze to her papers. "Um, my dates were very interesting. I met some lovely new people." Other than the one date who didn't show.

Right, it was for meeting new people, not just romance. Although Adora seemed a little uncomfortable about it. "Oh, did you get Worf? Or Dor? I hadn't met either of them before Saturday. Worf said he might show me his bat'leth."

And wonder, and wonder about Edward. Gah.

"I did! Worf was... quite the warrior and Dor is actually my roommate, so I'm very glad I didn't date him. Not that he isn't a wonderful person! But that would have been very strange for us both!" Adora replied. "How were your dates?"

"Yeah, I can see how that would be weird. But awesome about Dor. He was funny." Dinah grinned a little. "Um, I knew two of the other people, Jack and Robin. Didn't know Liz, but she seemed nice, we ended up talking dinosaurs. Who else did you get?"

"I had, um," Adora worked to speak brightly, "Worf, Liz, Zayne, and Hannibal." Who she should really go speak with. At some point.

Dinah glanced over at Hannibal, and nodded. "I still haven't talked to him even though we have his class, and I'm friends with his roomie." She bit her lip. "And I thought Zayne and you were crazy that first day we met. I owe him the same apology I owe you. Sorry about that. I had no idea what this place was like."

There. See? No awkward!

"Zayne really saved me the first day," Adora smiled. "He was the only person coming from somewhere as other as where I'm from. But you have no need to apologize, there was no way for any of us to know what we were getting into here. I'm sorry if I seemed at all put out by that first day confusion."

"Oh, hey, no worries at all. You had no idea!" Adora really was nice. "And now we both know more." Dinah took a minute to work on her assignment, then blurted out, "So you had a nice time at the dance with Edward?"

You idiot, Dinah. You didn't want to know that, remember?

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Adora should have expected that question, but she hadn't. Not after Saturday. "Oh! I had a wonderful time at the dance," she assured Dinah. "I can't speak for Edward of course."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad," and stupid, yes. Dinah smiled a little ruefully, doodling in the margins of her paper. "I had kind of a crush on Edward. For a while. But he's a good friend, and I'm glad you guys are having a good time together. He said he had a great time on the date he went on with you before the dance."

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, well, since you're a good friend of his, perhaps you can tell me if I have done something wrong," Adora said a little sadly. "You see, the announcer at the event called our names and I waited at the table, but Edward never came." Which was probably good as Adora was tipsy. Details.

Dinah's eyes widened in surprise and a little bit of outrage. "He what? That dork." She slapped a hand to her mouth, then sighed, shaking her head. "I'm so sorry. I have no idea. Maybe he... got lost?"

Hey, it was Edward, not totally impossible.

Re: Work

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"There were quite a few people," Adora allowed. "It was just so odd."

Re: Work

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah slapped down the tiny part of her that was evidently glad that Edward had taken off, and concentrated on Adora, because that really did suck. "You know, anything could have happened. He could have thought he saw a dragon, or thought it was over, or you know. Anything." She bit her lip. "You could go see him at work tomorrow?"

Re: Work

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is a wise idea, Dinah," Adora nodded. "Perhaps he has some explanation." And even if his explanation was that he wasn't interested, she would want to hear it now and save herself from wondering.

Re: Work

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, good." And try not to wonder what was up there. Maybe she's shake Edward about how to treat girls, sometime later. "I'm sure he does."

"He is lucky to have a friend in you," Adora decided.
