Buffy was running a little late this morning. She'd realized that no one ever seemed to be around on Fridays, though, so she didn't rush. And she also brought a stack of magazines with her, also because no one seemed be around on Fridays. She was not getting bored today, mark her words.

First up, Cosmo. She wasn't going to start off by doing any actual work. No, save that for when boredom loomed.

Second up, People, after some shelving and such that made her feel all nice and fuzzy and productive. She might've been considering who to interview for class, and was sure they'd be more interesting than any of the people in the magazine's stories.

Okay, she hadn't even gotten through Glamour and she was bored. So there was a lot of paging through the magazine and sighing.

Back after coffee.

Buffy returned, chai in hand, and looked around to give herself work to do. Yes, with the chai still in hand. Giles would have had a coronary.

Buffy was watching the clock, counting down the minutes till she could go. And people said she couldn't math.

Friday is for oversleeping!

Peering on into the library, Merlin's eyes went a little big. That was... much more than Gaius or Geoffrey had.

How on earth was he to find a single book there?

He would just have to bravely soldier on. And wave to the girl there as he walked in and continued to look just a bit dumbfounded.

Oh look a person! "Hey, what's up?" she greeted him happily.

"Hullo," Merlin replied, finally glancing away from the mounds of books. "Are all of these available to be read?"

A year and a half in the Sunnydale High School library, another half year here, and it had left poor Buffy with the impression that no one actually read the books. Unless there was a monster involved.

"Is there a monster involved?" she wondered. Stupid stream of consciousness.

...how did she know?!

Merlin chuckled nervously, looking around. "Why would you say that?"

Buffy blinked once or twice. "Oh, you know me, I joke. Tee hee. But seriously, there's a monster involved?"

Merlin tried his best to look innocent. Arthur would claim he was just looking dumber than usual, but he wasn't here, damn it.

"Not to my knowledge. I was just looking for a book."

About things. Like drinking blood.

"And what would this book be about?" she asked, casually. Like you did.

"...vampires."

No, he certainly was not getting the hang of this deception lark.

She was not allowed to perk up. She was not allowed. Not not not times infinity. Plus one.

And she totally looked more interested when she said, "Vampires? Like, vampires here?"

"No, no! Of--course not. Just. In case some did happen to be here." And had porn. "I didn't think that show with the bad accents was accurate, so I was wondering if there was something here."

All innocent like.

"I'm sure real vampires' accents would be more realistic," she said. Not that she knew any of those. "Okay, so, as I lead you to the books, maybe you can ask questions and I can answer them so there's not all that pesky reading. Call me a fan."

That got Merlin's hopes up. "Of vampires?"

"A little. Not gonna start dressing in black and calling myself one of anything, because those people worry me, but I know a few things..."

Merlin snorted, nodding for her to lead the way. "I hope you don't think I am either."

She led him into the stacks, and note how she knew exactly how to get here, shaking her head. "Nah. You wouldn't need books if you were," she reasoned.

She was just so lucky Merlin could be oblivious to these things. "Just black clothing and an odd way of speaking? I'm halfway there."

"So you know the type, yay," she smiled, stopping at one section almost automatically. "Okay, so. These shelves are all vampires, but if there's something really old or really gory that you need, that'd be a Special Collections thing."

That got Merlin's attention. "Where is the Special Collections?"

She sort of pointed through the stacks in the direction of it. "You need a note, though. And while I am all for boundary-crossing, I'd rather not get kicked out of school becuase I let a guy get eaten, you know?"

"The books eat people?"

"I don't think so, but I hear Special Collections might." She shrugged. "It's a little... interesting in there. There's a reason for the note."

"I'll be careful of that." No one wanted to be known as That Kid Who Was Eaten By Books. Least of all Merlin.
