Flight Club [Flight Shed]

The fact that they had power made this week's club meeting a lot more enjoyable than last week's. The fact that it wasn't spitting down enough snow to make Hoth jealous just made the meeting that much better.

Gavin was still bundled up but he was grinning as everyone filed in and helped themselves to the moddable snacks and drinks he'd picked up.

"Hey guys," he said once everyone had arrived. "We have power back which means we can get in some sim time today. Sorry about last week but there wasn't anything I could do short of powering the sim using a bicycle and my own energy and that wouldn't have lasted long in the cold."

Though, if he'd gotten desperate, Gavin might have tried it.

"Anyway, today we're gonna get right to it. We're gonna start off with the fighter aircraft and bombers an of this world since that's the world we're all living on right now. Of course, as most of us probably now, these planes fly in atmosphere so it's a little different for some of us that are used to flying in space. This planet hasn't made it there yet. But, I'm sure they're trying. I've set the sim up with both fighters and bombers so hop in and take a turn. There are going to be non aggressive targets so practice both using the bombs that the bombers come equipped with and the guns that the fighters are equipped with. The targets are going to be buildings that are going to be marked with red splashes of paints."

Gavin opened the sim's door and said, "Go to it."

Ben mingled like a person who was way too nervous about a date later that day.

Agnes hung out in the back of the room and snacked a little

Tahiri . . . did a lot of hovering around the snacks, mostly, not really nibbling so much as reaching out, hesitating, and just contemplating the snacks again.

Who'd be the other nervous person here? Why, yes, that would be her.

John didn't know why people seemed so damned nervous. They were just aircraft that couldn't go in space, gosh.

Hoshi could sense an undercurrent of nervousness in the room, though she had no explanation for it. She nibbled on something as she looked around.

Robin helped himself to some snacks, and generally bounced with excitement. Flying!

Snacks! Flying! Momoko was eager to enjoy both, today.

Blowing thing up? Totally astral. Ben went for the bombers and had way too much fun making things explode from the B-7.

Agnes picked the F-22, because it was... Well, it had a...

Okay, as much as she hated the word, it was REALLY FRIKKING COOL.

Tahiri went with the F-15E Strike Eagle, but this mission was doomed to failure from the start. For one, she had enough trouble maneuvering spacecraft, and the added complication of atmosphere-only flying gave her more trouble with the unfamiliar controls than she already had. For two, and in a word: nerves.

It was kind of a relief when she crashed out, actually.

Hoshi opted to try out the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

She didn't lose her lunch. That was probably the only positive thing she could say afterwards.

Robin chose the Strike Eagle because it looked the coolest. The sim kindly provided him a size appropriate vehicle.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!" He had apparently forgotten he was supposed to be shooting at things.

Marco went for the F-16, because blowing stuff up is cool.

Momoko chose the Lightning II; it had a really cool name and looked really fun to fly! She ran through the program and took out a fair number of the marked buildings with only a little guilt over the sim-people that sim-lived and sim-worked in them.

Anakin was there, keeping a watchful eye out to make sure no one touched the sim with snack-filled fingers.
