Blank Page Art Club, Art Classroom, Monday, 1/26

Claire was perched on the desk as she waited for the group to come together. "Hey, thanks for showing up a second time. We're doing introductions this week, and I'm really excited to see what everyone brought." She sounded it. Truly.

Well, as much as she ever did.

"I kind of thought that once we'd done show and tell, we could talk about what we liked or didn't like about each other's pieces. Anyhow, my name is Claire, I'm a senior, and I brought this self-portrait I did back in 10th grade. It was in the show at York Gallery a couple months back. I think I just like the way I used different media, and the cloth hair that kinda looks all Medusa-y."

She pointed randomly to someone else. "Your turn."

"I didn't bring anything," Katchoo said, to a reproachful beep from the wheeled alarm clock by her left foot. Katchoo kind of looked like she halfway wanted to give Claire hell for this whole show and tell idea.

It was a bit of a lie, since she did have a sketchbook or two with her; she just wasn't into the whole showing off thing.

Katchoo was about to complain when Clocky nudged her foot, hard, and with a mutinous glare at it she muttered, "I dunno. Whatever. Paint mostly, but charcoal's good too."

Angela hadn't really brought a piece, as such, but she did have a couple of sketchbooks with her.

"Hey, I'm Angela," she introduced, with a brief wave at the gathered people. She was pretty sure most of them knew her anyway, but still. "I'm a junior, and I've just got a few sketches, mostly people who didn't even know I was drawing them at the time," she admitted. Habit of going to coffee shops and sketching patrons, this one.

Liir was rather hesitant to show his picture, since they could very well just think he'd scribbled on the page (http://i42.tinypic.com/1yu4k3.jpg).

"It's the Vinkus. I guess. The part of it I remember the best. With, um, a pencil."

He realized only after he'd started putting the 'picture' down that he hadn't actually introduced himself.

"Liir. Sophmore."

And off he went.

The only real piece Cal had was probably sitting in a back room at the York Gallery, collecting dust, because he'd submitted it anonymously and would probably rather die than show up to claim it as his own (even if he did at one point consider picking it up 'for someone'). He had sketches, though, and doodles, in a few notebooks, one (http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb3/skylieicons/stick.png) a few things from last semester's art class. Most of them seemed cityscapes and collections of colors. Mostly reds.

"They're nothing special," he admitted. "I'm Cal, sophomore, and I do this art thing mostly recreationally."

Peyton shrugged. "I brought some of my comics (http://www.punkndisorderly.com/myart_comics.html?3). When I was back home I used to do a weekly strip for this magazine."

"I like to work with fabric, and I also have fun incorporating old clothing into new outfits," explained Harper as she opened her coat to show off her "art." It was the yellow dress that included pieces of her baby clothes.

Alice held up a large sheet of construction paper.

"I used clothes-pins dipped in paint as brushes, to make shapes," she said. "Abstract ones. And then I glued some of the clothes-pins in place and painted over them using other clothes-pins. And then I burned the end of yet another clothes-pin and used that to make the big black smudges. Everything was looking too ... clean."

Lily was around, and there was art and show and tell and she loved this club.
