Care for Magical Creatures; Friday, Period 2 [ 01/23 ].

On the classroom door, the students would find a note to actually meet in the Danger Shop today. Once they relocated there, though, they'd find a room almost identical to the one they were usually in, only entirely without all those stupid desks and with a long line of large cubby holes along one side.

"Good morning, students!" Minsc greeted them brightly. "Please have a seat! Today we are going to talk about something very important for a person on this island and that is knowing how to tell that random animal showing up in your bed or your kitchen or your sock drawer or your chili is in fact a random animal or one of your good friends turned into an animal."

"It might seem like an obvious distinction, but the clearest way to spot a transformed person if they seem to exhibit very human characteristics. Another? Does the create seem to go through great lengths to try to be communicating with you? Does it seem somewhat panicked and not merely because it's a little confused about where it's at? Those are also very good signs! If you're an exceptionally good tracker, you might be able to tell by scent! And, of course, there's always magic, but that's a bit easy, don't you think? Can you think of any other signs? Let's discuss!

"And once we have finished talking about possible ways to spot a transformed person from regular animal, I want you to take turns going to some of the cubbies behind me! In each one is a different creature. Some are coded to be real animals; other are transformed! See how many you can spot!"

Topic: What are ways in which one can tell that an animal they have encountered is actually a transformed person?

Minsc has already jotted down his examples, and awaits adding more for the benefit of the whole class.

And here's where your two cents or fifty dollars on the matter go! As always, feel free to go back and forth between each other, too!

Below are the various different animals in the cubbies. Look them over alone or in pairs, if you'd like. Animals can be moddable or Minsc will ping interaction!

Laying quietly in the first cubby, in between the simple,thin slats of its pale corkwood, upon a slightly fragrant bed of sweetly aromatic piles of straw, was a lethargic little creature, all spindly legs akimbo and softly twitching tail of slightly spotted velvet fur. He looked out precariously, batting the long eyelashing of his eyelids over his round, watery, deep brown, deep as oceans, deep as philosophy, eyes. The majestic, legendary, all too familiar teal deer awaits the eventual decision of the gathered masses of students as to whether or not his calm reverie on their actions and the world around him are symbolic and noteworthy of his true essence of Teal Deer-nees or if he is but a fraud, a slip of an illusion, a lie to the nature of his form, a transformed human, in the grand tradition of so many others.

In the second cubby is a flan, which was a creature that, at best, looked like a jello mold that didn't keep. It's mouth is gaping open quite a lot, trying to emit from it what sound it can. Mostly just blaaaaaars, along with the squishiness of his body moment. He definitely doesn't look happy in his situation.

Reno raised an eyebrow at the thing in the cubby, leaning in some to get a better look.

"Maaan, I got no idea what the hell you're supposed to be, but you are uuuuugly."

Ugly in a kind of cute, gelatinous blob sort of way.

"Blaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" said the flan, before squishing slightly as it bobbed up and down.

It was anyone's guess as to whether or not that was an agreement or an insulted declaration.

"Blaaaaaah right back on you, buddy." Reno squinted, reaching up to adjust his goggles on his forehead while he leaned in for a better look. "Come to think of it, you kinda look like some of the slop my buddy Rude back home would cook up whenever he felt up to usin' the kitchen. You ain't part cheese, are you?"

The mouse in cubby #3 seems less interested in the students and far more interested in stuffing cheese into its mouth.

Especially since it seems to have noticed that Boo has noticed the cheese, as well.

The panda bear looks very confused to be in a cubby, and isn't doing much except keeping a very close eye on everyone around him.

Don't ask how the cow managed to fit into a cubby smaller than his side; it just did. It's letting out a low moo on occasion, and really enjoying chewing that cud!

The extremely fluffy cat in Cubby #6 hates everything. It hates you, it hates your face, it hates being in this cubby. Perhaps it hates being a cat, too? HMMM??

Leto stopped in front of the cat, observing it closely.

After a long moment of looking incredibly unhappy with the entire world, the cat just let out a long, complaining sort of meow.

Leto frowned, still looking at the animal. He considered if removal of the fur would make it less uncomfortable.

A low growl started up somewhere amidst all that fur. He hated when people frowned at him. He hated when people smiled at him, too, for that matter. He hated...well, everything.

Leto stared at the animal, meeting it's gaze. Then he growled back.

...Man, he hated that!

The growl moved to a hiss, the puffball cat backing up a little in the cubby. Somehow, it managed to get even fluffier as it tried to make itself look bigger and therefor more intimidating.

Leto couldn't help himself; he burst our laughing.

The cat let out a long meow of objection. There was nothing funny here! He hated when people laughed for no good reason!

Every so often, the squinty-eyed puppy in cubby #7 lets out a few coughs and a sound like a random chuckle, as if he is experience the most far-out trip eeeevvverrrr, maaaan.

The red panda bear in cubby #8 actually has a little hammer and is using it to making motions as if working at a smithy's anvil.

Which isn't based on anything, really!

Arthur had to stare at the panda.

If prompted, he might admit it reminded him somewhat of Guinevere. That was enough to confuse him greatly.

There are two creatures in #9: an erratically moving butterfly, and a cute little baby gryphon trying to catch and eat it. They both seem too concerned with each other to bother with the students.

Merlin was staring at the baby gryphon, keeping all limbs safely away from the cubby lest he lose one.

"Hello..." Yes, talk to the murderous thing, Merlin.

The baby gryphon was oblivious to any attempts at conversation. The butterfly was not only more edible, it was also prettier than Merlin, although, maybe if you give it some time, it might mistake his ears for wings.

His ears were perfectly normal, thank you!

Certain the thing wasn't about to burst out of the cubby and try to kill Arthur, Merlin nodded and backed away. His job here was done.

When they ping in, hopefully in an untransformed state!

Firekeeper and Blind Seer were, indeed, here and both untransformed.

Arthur had not been transformed. But he was craving a drink, and he was watching the animals with a seemingly lazy ease.

He is always available after class to speak with his students!

Why YES, this class was just an excuse to use some of the ADORABLE icons I have, why do you ask???

I tried to make it obvious which ones were transformed and which ones weren't, but I'm seriously A-OKAY with them being modded however. I'm gone in the afternoon EST, but otherwise around if you want to interact with the animals to figure it out.

Do as many or as few as you'd like; I was just going crazy and having fun.

;) It would figure that my canon is one of three in the numbered FF series that totally doesn't have them. Daaang.

I have a very, very unnatural love for Flans.

And, shiiiiiiiiit, there aren't any in VII, are there? It's only eight o'clock in the morning, and already a mind trip. I thank you.
