Newspaper Staff Meeting, 4 pm, Journalism Room

"Okay," Rikku said darkly. "First meeting of the semester, it's gonna be great, blah blah blah. Why is it so freaking cold out?!"

This was possibly going to be a very short meeting.

Write an article about how winter is the worst idea ever invented in the history of anything!

"I can take an article on the general...frakkery of this whole ordeal," Lee said. "Kind of an overview of the blizzard/power situation?"

"Sounds good," Rikku nodded. "Use as many curse words as you want. I might scribble obscene things in the margins, like really rude drawings and all that."

If it stopped snowing by then, she would probably regain her sanity. ... Probably.

"I...could probably go on and on about this sort of weather," Cal admitted as he considered his angles. "I'll try to narrow it down to something. I think I'm keeping my options open for this first edition, just in case."

"I don't mind doing an all-weather-themed issue," she chirped. In a falsely bright sort of voice. "Because this weather is total crap and it deserves to hear about it."

"...It's not that bad," Cal offered, in a cautious sort of God, I'm going to regret this time of observation.

That earned him a Look. Possibly a Look.

"It's snowing," she said darkly. "It's cold and all the power went out and I can't use my laptop or any of the other neat technology-thingies you guys have here. I didn't know you lost them once it got too cold. It's not like that happens when it's warm out. We're all going to freeze to death and everything is all wet and snowy and frozen and I hate winter."

Growing up in the desert had, perhaps, left her ill-equipped for this sort of thing.

Cal grinned. He couldn't help it. "We're not going to freeze to death," he said. "We get blizzards like this all the time where I'm from, and I'm still alive."

"Still bitching," Warren decided.

It was an easy decision.

"I might join you, on that," Rikku huffed. "Not, like, steal your shtick. But I might go for bitching myself. It depends on if the freaking snow ever stops."

Warren raised an eyebrow.

"You need an escort back to the dorms or something? Snow and I don't typically get along."

Usually, Warren was victorious. Something to do with burning.

"You would? You mean it?" This was, perhaps, the most cheerful she'd been in days. "You'd just torch the snow? You could so totally charge for that, right about now."

"Supplement my booming career in the restaurant business by burning myself, huh?" Warren smirked faintly. But only faintly. "It isn't like it's hard for me to do. But I'm asking for hug immunity for the rest of the day if I do it."

It seemed fair to Warren.

MAYBE THAT WILL KEEP YOU WARM.

Lee's teeth were too busy chattering to really chat. But, he could try.

"Cold?" Warren smirked faintly, held up one hand, and lit it on fire. "I don't usually have that problem. Human bonfire, here."

Normally, he'd be a little paranoid about letting people near him. And normally he'd be a lot more paranoid about just casually lighting up as he was. But normally, the indoors had things like heat.

"Frakking freezing," Lee said, eyes lighting up at the appearance of fire. "And suddenly really envying you."

"I hate everyone, I want to make sure we all have that straight, here. But when people are sitting in little huddles with their teeth chattering together, I don't think I would have a problem with anyone getting a little closer when there's a reliable heat source sitting right here."

He demonstrated by letting the fire creep up both arms. At this rate, he'd have the room heated up in decent time, anyhow.

Lee was already feeling a bit warmer and he had to laugh at Warren's monologue.

"I know you hate everyone, we live together, remember?" Lee asked, snickering. "We've done pretty well for you hating me."

"Yeah, well, you haven't done anything too stupid yet," Warren replied with a little smirk. "Keep up the good work, there."

"I'm trying," he said and mock saluted. "I'll hear it from a couple of people if I do something stupid and I really frakking hate lectures, you have no idea."

"You're in luck there," Warren decided. "I don't lecture anyhow. I just throw fire at people."

Which was great if you could dodge and happened to have a fire extinguisher handy!

"And my reflexes are not as quick as they should be so I'd end up on fire and that would just frakking suck more," Lee said and laughed. "Oh, but maybe I'd get sympathy!"

"Well, I don't do sympathy." Yes, he did. "So you'll have to look for that somewhere else. That, or don't give me any good reasons to throw fire at you, huh?"

"I'm gonna work on keeping that streak alive," Lee said with a laugh. "If you're throwing fire, I hope to be behind you and cheering you in a very non intrusive manner."

"That's probably the best idea anyone around here has had in a very long time," Warren decided. "Now, let's hope everyone else on the island figures that one out, too."

There could be casualties eventually, otherwise.

Maybe.

Probably not.

"I'll try to spread the word but you know how people don't listen," Lee said and shook his head. "They'll just have to lose eyebrows to learn."

"Fandom stands to run out of eyebrows very quickly," Warren decided, and then settled down to take a seat, letting the fire creep up to his chin. "Is it warmer in here, now?"

It was kind of hard to tell when you were the one in flames.

"A lot," Lee said, nodding. "That's a handy thing to be able to do. Thanks, man. I can feel my fingers again."

If she's here. And not snowed in or anything.

Yeah, seriously. How did Rikku not complain more on Gagazet?

Or the really snowy and windy bits of Macalania, for that matter. Especially considering she was still rocking the halter-top-and-short-shorts.

I am amazed Lulu did not get frostbitten cleavage.

Lulu was keeping a Fira spell between her breasts. She'd have offered the same to Rikku, but Rikku doesn't have enough space in her cleavage. (Or lack thereof. ;) )
