Flight Club [Flight Shed]

The power was out when Gavin woke up. The power continued to be out when Gavin (possibly stupidly) started tromping over to the flight shed for the first meeting of the club for the new semester. The power remained out and thus, there was no working flight sim.

Well, bummer.

The snow continued to fall and Gavin decided just to make this a quick meeting so no one would freeze and possibly sue him.

"Uh, hey guys," he said, blowing warm air through his hands. "So, we have no power. We have no flight sim. This is only the first meeting so hopefully this gets fixed by next time. Um, we can do quick intros and then we can all go run back inside and get warm. Or, as warm as we can since there's no power."

Kriffing power.

"So, I'm Gavin. I'm a senior. I fly X-Wings back home. And I'm really kriffing cold."

He was a desert boy, he was allowed to be cold.

"Okay, anyone can go next. Name, class, what you fly if you fly and if you're cold or not."

"That was supposed to go to Meg," Ben said, blushing.

She almost smiled. "I'm just glad I didn't say anything too embarrassing to anyone. Just stuck to yelling."

Ben thought back. "Yeah, none of mine were too terrible. How was home?"

"Uh. Confusing." She frowned, deciding it couldn't hurt to ask. She'd barely talked about it so far. "Does your version of me have that Sword of the Jedi thing, too?"

Ben was silent for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah. Dad freak you out?"

"I handled it okay," she said with a shrug. That part was freaking her out.

Ben watched her. "Wanna talk about it later?" he offered.

She wasn't sure how willing she was to talk yet, considering she didn't know how she felt about it. "I'm okay," she said slowly. "There's not much I can do about it, you know?"

"Yeah," Ben replied with a little shrug. "There's a lot of that going around."

Jaina nodded and asked, "How are things with you?"

Ben gave her a vague smile. "Better now that I'm back here," he said. "I don't taste bacta any more."

"We need to get you easier trips home," she said right out.

Ben raised an eyebrow. "Because yours always are," he said dryly.

"I have some good ones," she protested. "And John goes with me most of the time."

"I'll bet taking John back with me wouldn't have the same benefits," Ben teased.

Jaina made a face at him. "You'd have to get your own John."

Ben's cheeks went a little pink. "Mine will have better hair."

"It has character," she said.

"Does hair have to have character?" Ben asked.

"No, but it doesn't hurt," she said, eyeing his braid that she bet a lot of people didn't get.

He yanked on the braid and blushed. "Shh. Even if Ender makes fun of it."

"I'm not making fun. I'm just saying everyone has their thing," she said.

"It's not a thing," Ben mumbled.

It was totally a thing.

"It's a thing," Jaina said calmly. "It's you. That's not bad."

"You're sure?" Ben asked.
