The Club Fair; Gym; Friday Afternoon [ 01/16 ].

Never one to shy away from getting her hands dirty in the tedious work of helping a student body run nice and smooth ~~not dirty~~, Turtle had been very eager to help set up the club fair again this semester, putting up all the signs and posters and little treats on Westing Paper Products. The Club Schedule was very prominently displayed were everyone could see it before disappearing into the small maze of tables filling in the gym.

That, and it also helped her hold off the inevitable moment of seeing how this whole laundry strike thing was really effecting Jeff. Ahhhh, manual labor, the true opiate of the work-addicted masses.

Leto wasn't sure about joining any clubs, but he noticed Turtle and walked up to her. "Good afternoon," he said. "Are there many future entrepreneurs at the school?"

"Not many," Turtle admitted, "but we are a very good and ambitious few. How's it going, Leto? You interested in joining?"

"It's going well apart from the machines being a worry," he told her. "And I'm not sure I can qualify as a young entrepreneur. How are you?"

"Good," Turtle said with a nod. "Yeah, the machine thing is a little distressing, but things like this always seem to pass around here, so I'm not too worried. And, you know, Alice was in the club last semester without any entrepreneur experience, and she did great!"

"She did?" Leto said, not knowing who Alice was or how surprising her success should be. "And one needs to be wary of Thinking machines."

"No more wary than anything else that thinks," Turtle pointed out, who was very used to conversations about what to be worried about with Jeff. "And she really did. So you should check it out; you could discover a real talent for it, Leto. And, even if not, it's still a lot of fun."

"Than anything else that thinks," he repeated, nodding. "You are wise, Turtle, but humans are easier to predict and interpret. I will consider your club, but I have to study my schedule before I take on more than I should."

"Some humans," Turtle couldn't help saying with a grin, and thinking that Leto really needed to meet Jeff if he hadn't yet, if that's what he believed. "And thanks. It really would be a very useful investment of your time, though, I assure you."

Plus, she had to admit, she wouldn't exactly mind seeing him in club every week or anything.

"Any particular humans excluded?" Leto asked, having a feeling there was. "And I believe you." He also believed he would enjoy the company of Turtle once a week.

"I can think of a few," Turtle said with a grin. "Have you met Jeff yet?"

"I met someone named Jeff who seemed very concerned about nudity," Leto told her. He had assumed this was a common concept in Jeff's home environment.

"Yep," Turtle nodded. "That's my Jeff, all right. Jeff is a very good example of the type of human that is extremely difficult to predict. I should know, considering I'm dating him."

"Dating?" Leto was surprised to find himself a little disappointed to hear that. "What exactly does dating involve in this place?" There were so many cultural specifics to romantic relationships that it seemed good to make sure he understood them properly.

And now Turtle was wondering why she'd even brought it up, but the fact that she thought that told her very firmly that she definitely had to bring it up now.

"Uh, it really depends on the people involved," Turtle said, trying to pretend that blush across her cheeks didn't exist. "I mean, everyone's so different and from all different places that the scale of dating is just as wide and varied."

"So everyone make specific agreements depending on their particular cultural values?" Leto asked. "Doesn't that cause problems?"

Turtle grinned a little. "Dating's going to be problematic no matter what, really," she said. "That's why it's so much trial and error, until you find someone who, you know, meshes."

"Ah," Leto said, then he fell silent.

And Turtle had gone through more than enough trial and error in relating to people in general to know that Ah and then falling silent might not be a good thing. She frowned a little.

"...What?"

"Nothing," Leto said. "Your explanation was clear."

Turtle still looked a little worried, but she nodded. "Okay," she said. "Good. An explanation's not very much good if it's all convoluted, is it?"

"No, it's not." He gave her half a smile. "But I shouldn't distract you any longer." Leto turned, about to leave.

That definitely didn't seem like a very good turn in the conversation, but going back and wondering what she might have said wrong only really highlighted Leto's point about the complexity of this sort of thing. She could even be imagining it all, really...

So she nodded. "Oh, okay," she said. "You probably have a lot of other clubs to look at, anyway. But keep YA in mind, yeah? It'll be really nice having you there..." She gave him a smile at the end, one to hopefully let him know that she really meant it.

Leto threw a smile at her over his shoulder, then walked away. He knew he was behaving stupidly, and there were enough of ancestors in his mind to inform him of that too, but he couldn't help it.

Turtle watched Leto go, making sure that she didn't sigh until he'd gone into the crowd a little. Sigh, and lean forward on a cradle of her hands for her chin and wonder if what just happened there meant that she was getting rusty or if it was something else entirely.
