Food Appreciation [Class Two, Period #3]

"Hey guys!" Marshall said, his mouth full of...something. He chewed and swallowed before talking again. "Today we're going to be talking about bar food."

He pointed at the long table in the front where there was various kinds of finger foods. "Bar food is used to soak up the alcohol in your system so you don't get so drunk that you're unable to hit on somebody. Or, if you're happily married, it's there to munch on while you watch your single friends hit on people. Either way, it's good. If you hit up a bar during happy hour then you can find this stuff for real cheap. You know when it's even cheaper? Right before closing because the bar is trying to get rid of the food."

Marshall knew a lot about bars.

"Okay, so bar food is mostly stuff you eat with your hands. Nachos, french fries, pretzels, beer nuts, onion rings, mozzarella sticks. If you're real lucky there will be some sliders on the menu," Marshall said, pointing to the burgers on the table. "And, last but certainly not least, buffalo wings. For those of you who aren't familiar with them, they aren't made of buffalo. They're chicken. And they come in different levels of heat. I prefer the more mild stuff but if I'm feeling particularly daring and there's enough blue cheese dressing around then I can crank it up to hot."

"So you've got a little bit of everything up here to dig into. There's the usual array of drinks in the back of the room," Marshall said. "There's also non-alcoholic beer and margaritas back there too. I tend to stay away from those but you guys go right ahead."

Ned hadn't had much experience with bars outside of Caritas so he didn't really recognize a lot of these foods since he tended not to eat at Caritas.

The zombies sometimes made him queasy.

Marco felt like he was going to love this class.

Firekeeper listened carefully. This food wasn't much like that found in the taverns of Hawk Haven or New Kelvin.

Priestly just tried to get over the joy of learning about bar foods in high school so as not to spend the entire class grinning like a jackass.

It wasn't working so well.

"Dude, buffalo wings aren't buffalo? I've been lied to me whole life!" Hurley joked.

Again with the favorite class here. Seriously. It almost made her not give a crap about Journalism.

Molly listened to the...well, she guessed it was a lecture. Still, this was good information to have if she ever went to college, or a bar.

She'd been in a few dance clubs back home, but the only bar Momoko had ever visited was that one in town with the zombies. And only once had that been on purpose. She didn't remember any food except for pretzels but there could have been some - she was kind of busy being a boy and talking to a girl who was supposed to be a boy. That sort of thing distracted even Momoko from food.

Alex had visited Caritas a couple of times, but that was the only bar experience she'd had. She did recognize a lot of the food, though. And it looked good.

Kaylee infinitely preferred this food to what was available in the bars at home.

Mostly this had to do with how she had never been in a bar at home. But she'd heard stuff.

Claudia was dressed totally demurely today: many of her favorite pieces needed to be washed, so she'd had to settle for a micromini jean skirt, a black bustier that explosed a strip of her stomach, and a black and red knee-length sweater that was significantly longer then the skirt. She'd topped it off with bright red platform heels and pulled her hair back into a long French braid. She'd made the beaded necklace herself, along with the dangly silver earrings. On anyone else, she'd look like a hooker. On Claudia, it looked great.

She couldn't wait to dig into bar food. Mmmm. Fried.

This was not the kind of food Hoshi expected that she'd appreciate. Still, she wished she'd known much much earlier that one was supposed to eat while drinking. It might have saved her on a lot of embarrassment, especially after New Year's.

Jen made a good show of listening, but mostly she was just waiting to get to the food.

Apparently deep-fried foods eroded her discipline like nothing else could do.

This was useful information. Of course Harry was paying attention in the right thread this time. Paying attention while trying to figure out if he could manage to eat a little of everything on the menu before class was over.
