So You Want to Make a TV Show- 2nd Period- Class #2
Dana waited till everyone was seated before looking up from what she was writing at the desk. And then did a little headcount. "Well, I see we have roundabouts the same numbers we did last week," she said, though she hadn't taken a head count last week so she could be wrong, "Last week we started out with a little impromptu planning session. This week I actually want to know your names. Tell me your name, what year you're in, and what you're doing in this class."
After introductions, she went on, "There probably aren't any wrong answers in this class, though now that I've said that I'm sure I'll have at least one person who strives to prove me wrong. You show up on time, participate, and at least pretend that you care and we'll get along fine. Show up late, make me think you're purposely getting on my nerves, and that'll land you in detention. I've never given detention before, it could be fine," she smiled, and stood to hand out the syllabus. This is what we're going to be doing, or at least a rough sketch of it. Everything is subject to change. And if any of you are interested in being a TA this semester, come see me after class.
"Now," she said, placing the extra handouts on her desk before hopping onto it to sit, "last week you paired up to hash out what you need to do to put a show together. If you actually look at the syllabus, that should be a clue. The first thing you need, of course, is an idea. You need to know what kind of show you're going to do. Did any of you come up with that? Look, okay, why don't we do this. You tell me the things you came up with that you need, and I'll tell you if you're wrong or right. And don't be afraid to look at someone funny or argue if you're pretty sure they got it wrong. Or hey, even if they got it right and it's not something you thought of. TV is a collaborative business. You're going to have people both praising you and damning you every step of the way, only the damning tends to happen much, much louder. Partially so they can steal the stuff they'd praise you for. So. What you came up with. Let's start with...." -Pointing at random- "...you."
