Food Appreciation [Class One, Period #3]

When the students came into the classroom today they would notice that it was set up like a usual classroom except for a loooooooong table in the front of the room. It was covered in all sorts of food. Seriously. A ridiculous amount of food. Marshall was standing beside it, eying the food hungrily. He couldn't wait until it was time to eat. When it looked like everyone was in the room, Marshall tore his attention away from the food and onto the students.

"Hi guys. For those of you who don't know, I'm Marshall Eriksen and this is Food Appreciation," he said with a smile. "This class is exactly what it sounds like. We're here to appreciate food. I tried to make it seem like there's rhyme or reason to this class and we're not just stuffing our faces but...we're here to stuff our faces. Don't tell the principal."

"Your T.A. for this class is Miss. Peters. She's pretty much awesome and she's perfectly capable of taking over the class if I'm not here," he said, smiling over at Francine. "Some of you guys look familiar and some of you are new to me so let's start today with some introductions. Just give me your name, your favorite food and tell me something about yourself. I'll go first. I'm Marshall, and, yes, just call me Marshall. Mr. Eriksen still weirds me out. My favorite food is any type of candy and I'm married to Ms. Aldrin, who is another teacher here. And, um...I've won a slap bet. Okay. Who's next?"

After the introductions Marshall clapped his hands together and pointed at the table of food. "Okay, today we're going to start with the most obvious food to start with: breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day. There is nothing worse than going through a day without breakfast. I guarantee you ninety percent of the time when you run into a grumpy person during your day they are grumpy because they didn't have a good breakfast. Eat it. Every day. It can be simple, some cereal, some fruit, yogurt. You won't regret it."

"Now we've got a ton of breakfast food that I got the cafeteria to mix up. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles..." Marshall said, pointing at the various stuff on the table. "We're also getting New York with the bagels and lox and--ooh, there's a strip steak. Steak and eggs are the best. And oh! For you guys going to college: leftover pizza. Trust me, get used to it. Don't heat it up. You're most likely going to eat it cold."

"Okay, so there's plates and silverware up here and juice, coffee and other drinks in the back," Marshall said. "Get eating. Talk to each other about breakfast food."

Yep. This was going to be the best class ever.

What was wrong with friends, she'd like to know?

"Um... not exactly." But she couldn't come out and just say, 'oh, hey, so you were looking for your bride?'

Of course, Amber didn't know that she had misunderstood Claudia, either.

Priestly wasn't pouting. He didn't pout.

No, seriously, it was really awkward to try with that piercing in his lip.

"Look, if you just wanna do dinner as friends, then that's cool. Just, you know, let me know, okay? I hate assumptions."

Amber bit her lip. Sometimes she was just too damn flirty. And damn, did she hurt his feelings?

"Don't you wanna do dinner as friends?" She could toss that right back at him.

This was a trap, wasn't it.

"Didn't I just say that was cool?"

"Yah, you did. But you also said to clear up any assumptions," she pointed out.

What was he thinking?

"I'm not assuming you have a girlfriend; I was just asking. Simple question. Friends can have dinner," she assured him, and herself.

Priestly sighed. This was getting all very tangled up.

"No, I don't have a girlfriend. And yeah, friends can have dinner. So." He held out his hand, not wanting to argue anymore. "Friends?"

She didn't like the sound of his sigh and wondered what the crap she said or did wrong.

But she took his hand. "Friends." But if he was looking for his bride, he could at least be honest about it.

Hey, at least she didn't actually ask if he'd knocked his mysterious, imaginary bride up, first.

"Okay. Cool."

Give her a few more minutes.

"...so, because I might have heard something or other, but whatever, I mean, you don't... um, have a fiance either?"

People were saying he had a what?

"What?"

"Wow. Okay. Nevermind. The look on your face pretty much answered that question."

Maybe Claudia misunderstood. The way she typed, who knew. Not that Amber would dare mention that.

"So. Dinner?"

Of all the rumors he could see going around about him, that was a new one.

"Yeah." He shook his head a bit to clear it. "Yeah. Friendly dinner."

She thought he was engaged?

Hey, typing could be very misleading!

"Just... okay. Fine. Friendly dinner."

They were doing an awesome job of being friendly to each other just now, weren't they.

". . . When do you wanna do it?"

Amber just really hoped she still got to learn if he wore anything underneath that kilt of his.

"We can do it anytime. I'm easy."

"Hey, lady's choice," Priestly insisted. "I work at the diner on Thursdays, got class on Friday mornings, otherwise, my schedule's pretty open."

[ooc: though the mun is AFK weekend evenings]

"Okay, I work Wednesday," and tentatively meeting up with Claudia after that. "Class Thursday." Umm. "What about next Monday evening?" Because she was sure she was getting together with Liir another day this week.

Priestly nodded. "Monday it is."

"Great," she grinned. "Want me to just stop by your room that evening at ~~handwavey time?"~~

"I can totally do that."

Something suddenly occurred to Priestly.

"Right, so, uh, in the interest of not assuming. Do you have a boyfriend?"

"Yah, I'm dating someone."

A beat.

"When I see him," she said with a slight frown.

Why did girls have to flirt when they were already with somebody else? It just confused things!

". . . When you see him?"

Amber was a friendly flirty person. It was just natural!

"Uh-huh. I, um, don't see him very often."

Priestly decided that he did not want to get in the middle of all that.

"Are you exclusive?"

Okay, maybe he couldn't help getting into the middle of it a little.

She seemed to consider that question. Thoughtfully. Taking her time even. Would Liir go out with someone else? Since he hardly went out at all and given what he said to her the other night, well... she didn't think he would.

"Like, if someone asked me out and their intentions were anything other than friendly, I'd have to say no."
